Where you'll be working:
Join a close-knit and highly specialised team of four Perfusionists (3.0 FTE) within the Cardiac Surgical Program at John Hunter Hospital. Since 1992, the program has delivered life-saving cardiac services to the Hunter New England community and continues to grow and evolve.
Cardiac surgery is currently performed within one of the hospital's 15 operating theatres and will soon transition to the new Acute Services Building, featuring two dedicated cardiac operating theatres and state-of-the-art facilities. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a well-established service while being part of its next chapter.
About the role:
As a Perfusionist, you will play a critical role in supporting complex adult cardiac surgery and intensive care services. Working independently and collaboratively with surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses and intensive care teams, you will provide specialised extracorporeal support and blood management services that are essential to patient outcomes.
Your responsibilities will include:

Independently providing extracorporeal support for adult cardiac surgical procedures and ICU patient care.

Delivering intraoperative blood management through cell salvage and haemostasis analysis.

Supporting cardiac surgery and other specialties as required.

Participating in a shared on-call roster and responding to urgent clinical needs, including regular unplanned overtime when required.

Contributing to the ongoing delivery of safe, high-quality patient care within a multidisciplinary environment.

Requirements:

Bachelor of Science or other relevant degree or an equivalent certificate. Please upload a copy of your qualification/s with your CV.

Certification as a Clinical Perfusionist with the Australasian Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP) or Overseas Trained Perfusionist who has been assessed by the ABCP to have qualifications, training and competence that are acceptable for recognition.
