## Diesel Motor Mechanic
## Position Overview
We are looking for a skilled and dedicated Diesel Motor Mechanic to join our team and play a vital role in keeping our heavy vehicle fleet operating safely and efficiently. The successful candidate will bring hands-on expertise in diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing diesel engines and associated mechanical systems across trucks, buses, and other heavy vehicles. ## Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and detect faults across diesel engines, drivetrains, and mechanical systems using a combination of hands-on inspection and computer-assisted diagnostic equipment
- Dismantle engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms, suspension systems, and braking components to assess condition and identify areas requiring repair or replacement
- Carry out repairs and replacements of worn, damaged, or defective parts to manufacturer specifications, referencing service manuals and technical documentation as required
- Reassemble and reinstall engine components, mechanical systems, and associated parts following repair, ensuring correct fitment and function
- Test and adjust repaired mechanical parts and systems to verify proper performance, calibration, and safety prior to returning vehicles to service
- Conduct routine preventative maintenance services including fluid changes, filter replacements, belt and hose inspections, and scheduled component checks
- Inspect heavy vehicles for roadworthiness and, where appropriately licenced, issue roadworthiness certificates or document work required to bring vehicles into compliance
- Maintain accurate and detailed service records, job cards, and maintenance logs in line with workshop and regulatory requirements
- Operate workshop tools, lifting equipment, and diagnostic technology safely and in accordance with workplace health and safety standards
- Liaise with fleet managers, supervisors, and parts suppliers to ensure timely turnaround of vehicles and effective management of parts inventory
- Support and mentor apprentices or junior technicians where applicable, contributing to a positive and productive workshop environment
## Required Qualifications & Skills
- Completed Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology or an equivalent trade qualification recognised in Australia
- Solid experience working as a Diesel Motor Mechanic within a heavy vehicle, fleet, or transport maintenance environment
- Demonstrated ability to diagnose and repair diesel engines, automatic and manual transmissions, hydraulic systems, suspension, steering, and braking systems
- Proficiency in using computerised diagnostic tools and interpreting technical data and service manuals
- Sound understanding of workplace health and safety obligations relevant to a workshop environment
- Strong attention to detail with a methodical and accurate approach to fault-finding and repair work
- Current and valid driver's licence appropriate for operating heavy vehicles
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team setting
## Preferred Qualifications
- Heavy vehicle inspection licence or authorisation to issue roadworthiness certificates in the relevant state or territory
- Experience working across a broad range of heavy vehicle makes and models, including European and Japanese marques
- Familiarity with fleet management software or workshop management systems
- Forklift or elevated work platform (EWP) licence
- First aid certification
