About the Role
Working under the direction of the Head of Science, the Science Laboratory Technician ensures that the laboratory environment meets workplace safety standards, is familiar with Risk Assess or similar platform, and supports teachers in the preparation of resources across Years 5 -12. The successful applicant will also manage supplies and resources through purchasing, checking and maintaining equipment and resource management to ensure the availability of necessary equipment and materials for science experiments and demonstrations.
This is a full time term time position, commencing as soon as possible. The successful candidate should have prior experience in a similar Laboratory Assistant position.
Key Responsibilities / Duties:
- Preparation, set up and pack down of equipment, instruments, and materials for science experiments and demonstrations in accordance with risk assessments.
- Provide support during practical laboratory sessions, ensuring students adhere to safety protocols and guidelines when required.
- To use Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and Risk Assessment Sheets on Hazardous chemicals.
- Properly handle and dispose of chemical waste according to established safety and environmental protocols.
- Advise in the design/demonstration of experiments under supervision of an academic staff member(s) where discretion and judgement are involved.
- Resource management and maintenance.

Skills and Experiences:
To be considered for this role, you should have:
Tertiary qualifications in science or similar discipline.
Previous experience in a school laboratory is highly desirable
Strong organisational and time management skills, particularly the ability to manage competing priorities.
Exceptional attention to detail.
