The Hum is currently seeking a skilled, efficient, and passionate Cook to join our team. This is a full-time ongoing position, working 38 hours per week, based in Byron Bay, New South Wales (NSW).

About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated Cook to join our team at The Hum. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and cooking menu items to a consistently high standard while supporting efficient kitchen operations in a busy cafe and casual dining environment.
As a Cook, you will be responsible for the following duties:
- Prepare and cook a variety of cafe-style menu items including breakfast dishes, burgers, salads, sandwiches, and light meals;
- Follow standard recipes, portion controls, and preparation procedures to maintain consistency and quality;
- Operate kitchen equipment such as grills, fryers, ovens, and food prep equipment safely and efficiently;
- Ensure consistency in taste, presentation, and portioning of all menu items in line with café standards
- Support daily food preparation including batching, prep lists, and ingredient readiness for service periods
- Monitor stock levels and assist with receiving, rotating, and storing kitchen supplies;
- Maintain cleanliness, hygiene, and organisation of all kitchen areas and workstations;
- Collaborate with kitchen and front-of-house team members to ensure smooth and timely service.
Skills & Experience – Who we’re looking for:
For this position, it is expected that you will possess the following qualifications/work experience:
- Certificate IV in Kitchen Management or related qualification OR at least 3 years of relevant experience in lieu of qualification;
- Experience working in a café, casual dining, or high-volume breakfast and lunch service environment (highly regarded);
- Strong time management with the ability to perform under pressure during busy service periods
- High attention to detail and commitment to maintaining food quality, consistency and presentation;
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced café environment
- Sound understanding of food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety regulations;
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work flexible shifts including weekends and peak trading hours;
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to contribute to a collaborative kitchen equipment.
