Newcastle Private is seeking a Nurse Unit Manager for our Anaesthetics Department, with excellent leadership skills and a passion for delivering high quality patient care to join our team on a Full-time Basis. Please note this role is a combination of clinical and non clinical work.
As Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) you will assist the Perioperative Manager in being responsible for providing leadership direction to the Anaesthetics team to support the strategic direction, operational processes, budget and business direction of the hospital.

As a Nurse Unit Manager your responsibilities will include:
- Provide leadership and direction to the department to complement the strategic direction, operational processes, budget and business direction of the hospital
- Provide operational direction for the unit to ensure efficient and effective management of the area and coordinate the delivery of the nursing care that is evidence based
- Be accountable and responsible for the effective management of human, financial and material resources and ensure the customer service is maintained at optimal levels
- Undertake direct patient care as required providing guidance and support to less experienced members of nursing team
- Work as part of the healthcare team, adhere to Healthscope and site policies and procedures and key performance indicators
- Participate in working parties/committees and demonstrate a commitment to continuous quality improvements through NSQHS, workplace health and safety and achievement of hospital accreditation
Essential Criteria:
- Current Registration with AHPRA
- Working with Children check
- 4+ years Anaesthetics and PACU experience
- Demonstrated experience being in-charge of shifts
- Current or previous ANUM or clinical nurse specialist experience
- Post-graduate degree in relevant specialty area (or working towards)
- Sound clinical knowledge
- Compliance with ACQSHC National standards & ACORN standards
- Exemplary interpersonal and communication skills
- Positive role modelling behaviours
- Excellent customer service focus, time management and prioritisation
- Ability to manage a dynamic and changing environment
- High degree of computer literacy including MS office and various data bases
- Previous Experience with Rostering
- Demonstrated stock inventory management
