Metal Roofing and Building Supplies Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced and motivated Sheet Metal Worker to join our manufacturing team in Smeaton Grange, NSW.
This is a full-time position working 38 hours per week, focused on the fabrication and assembly of custom skylight products using a variety of sheet metal manufacturing equipment and fabrication techniques.
Key Responsibilities
- studying blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine job, material and equipment requirements.
- selecting metal stock, such as Colorbond and Zincalume steel sheeting, and checking sizes and other dimensions of metal stock against specifications.
- marking out metal stock with reference points and lines for skylight flashings, using templates, and other measuring instruments.
- cutting metal stock along guidelines using a guillotine, drop saw, and CNC hydraulic press.
- shaping and forming cut metal stock into skylight flashing products using a long fold machine, electromagnetic sheet metal folder, and slitter steel machine .
- fitting and assembling skylight components into final products by applying silicone sealant, riveting with a pneumatic compressor-driven rivet tool, and securing timber frames using a nail gun and drop saw.
- conducting final finishing and quality control checks on assembled skylights, ensuring products are clean, defect-free and completed to manufacturing standards.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience
To qualify for this position, you will have:
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in using a range of hand and power tools, including guillotines, electromagnetic sheet metal folders, long fold machines, CNC hydraulic presses, drop saws, drills, and pneumatic compressors.
- Blueprint Interpretation: Ability to read and understand complex technical drawings and specifications.
- Material Knowledge: Familiarity with various sheet metals, their properties, and appropriate handling techniques.
- Physical Attributes: Good physical strength and stamina, as the role often involves manoeuvring heavy materials and working in varied environments.
- Mathematical Skills: Strong understanding of math to take accurate measurements and perform calculations for material layout and fabrication.
- Attention to Detail: A high level of precision and accuracy is essential for ensuring products meet specifications and quality standards.
- Safety Awareness: A commitment to following all safety procedures and maintaining a safe work environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- AQF Certificate III Engineering – Fabrication Trade (Sheetmetal working) or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum 3 years’ relevant experience in fabricating and installing sheet metal products in commercial or industrial settings.
Remuneration / Salary
$75,000 to $85,000 per annum plus superannuation Remuneration will reflect current market conditions and industry award rates. To be discussed with the successful applicant.
