Motor Mechanic

GC Scrap Metal Pty Ltd

Salary: $75,000 – $85,000 per year + Superannuation
Employment Type: Permanent, Full-time (38 hours per week)

GC Scrap Metal Pty Ltd is a well-established scrap metal recycling and vehicle dismantling business based in Molendinar, Queensland. The company specialises in the collection, processing, and recycling of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, including the dismantling and recycling of end-of-life vehicles.

As part of our operations, we recover reusable automotive components and maintain a fleet of operational vehicles and equipment used in scrap collection and recycling activities.

Due to continued business growth, we are seeking a qualified and experienced Motor Mechanic to join our team.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will perform duties consistent with the role of Motor Mechanic, including but not limited to:

Inspecting and diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults in motor vehicles using appropriate diagnostic equipment.
Conducting mechanical assessments of vehicles received by the company prior to dismantling or recycling.
Dismantling motor vehicles and removing mechanical components including engines, gearboxes, radiators, alternators, suspension assemblies, and steering components.
Testing recovered mechanical parts and determining their suitability for refurbishment, reuse, or recycling.
Carrying out repairs, servicing, and refurbishment of reusable automotive components where appropriate.
Draining and safely disposing of automotive fluids including oils, coolant, fuel, and brake fluids in accordance with environmental and safety regulations.
Performing routine servicing and maintenance on company vehicles, including tow trucks, forklifts, and operational equipment used within the recycling yard.
Maintaining workshop tools, diagnostic equipment, and mechanical tools in proper working condition.
Recording recovered vehicle parts and mechanical components and assisting with parts inventory management.
Ensuring all work is completed in accordance with workplace safety procedures and Work Health and Safety (WHS) standards.

Skills and Experience

To be considered for this position, applicants should possess:

A minimum of three years’ relevant industry experience
Relevant trade qualification as a Motor Mechanic or Automotive Technician.
Demonstrated experience diagnosing and repairing mechanical faults in vehicles.
Experience in dismantling vehicles and handling mechanical components.
Knowledge of automotive systems including engines, transmissions, suspension, and braking systems.
Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
Ability to work safely in a workshop or industrial yard environment.
A strong commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship.
