The Opportunity: Senior Manager – Strategic Engagement, Advocacy & Stakeholder Relations

This role plays a critical part in shaping and strengthening Medibank’s external engagement, advocacy and stakeholder strategy, to help Medibank achieve its strategic priorities and grow our mandate to drive the health transition and achieve real health system reforms that improve the sustainability of our world class health system.

Reporting to the Hub Lead – Healthcare Policy & Funding, you will act as a senior subject matter expert, providing leadership across stakeholder engagement, advocacy and external communications. Working closely with senior executives, you will design, embed and continuously evolve enterprise-wide frameworks, governance and processes to ensure consistent, effective and risk-aware stakeholder engagement.

How you will create value

In this broad and dynamic role, you will add value by:

Leading the design, implementation and continuous improvement of enterprise-wide stakeholder engagement frameworks, governance and processes.

Setting the strategic direction for how Medibank engages with external stakeholders, advocacy objectives and risk appetite.

Driving consistency of stakeholder engagement practices, messaging and protocols across all business units.

Developing and maintaining strategic approaches to stakeholder identification, prioritisation and relationship management across the Australian health system.

Acting as a trusted advisor to senior executives on stakeholder engagement strategy, reputational risk and external positioning.

Supporting advocacy efforts by translating policy and organisational priorities into clear, coordinated external engagement and messaging.

Identifying and managing stakeholder-related reputational and strategic risks, ensuring robust governance and alignment with enterprise risk processes.

Building and strengthening relationships with key stakeholders across government, industry and the broader health sector to support Medibank’s strategic objectives.

About you

You are an experienced stakeholder engagement, communications, policy or advocacy professional with a strong track record operating in complex, high-profile environments.

Your judgement, influence and ability to navigate sensitive stakeholder landscapes will be critical to success in this role.

Key attributes and experience include:

Extensive experience in stakeholder engagement, government relations, policy, advocacy or a related discipline.

Strong understanding of the Australian health system, including policy and funding dynamics.

Proven capability designing and embedding enterprise-wide frameworks, governance models or stakeholder strategies.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with senior executives and manage complex, sensitive stakeholder relationships.

Experience operating in policy, advocacy or politically sensitive environments is highly regarded.
