2027 Post Graduate Certificate in Critical Care – Intensive Care Nursing
12-month supported post graduate program . Course to commence early January

Ongoing employment within the Intensive Care Unit is subject to successful completion of all academic and clinical requirements of the postgraduate program, including achievement of required clinical competencies

About The Intensive Care Unit

The Austin Health Intensive Care Unit is a 35-bed unit with 29 ICU equivalent beds funded. We provide the state-wide and Tasmanian specialty service for liver transplant, fulminant liver failure, spinal cord injuries and the Victorian Respiratory Support Service (VRSS). In addition to this we are also specialists in cardiac surgery, neurosurgery, general medical, surgery and obstetrics ICU care.

ICU also provides the Critical Care Outreach Team who respond to and support patients who deteriorate or are at risk of deterioration in the inpatient areas. We have a strong teaching and research culture with our staff receiving recognition both nationally and internationally. We are proud of our strong multidisciplinary ICU team that values teamwork and collaboration and always puts the patient at the centre of everything we do.

About the role and program

Austin Health is delighted to offer registered nurses with at least two years' acute nursing experience, the opportunity to undertake a Graduate Certificate in Critical Care Nursing (Intensive Care) in partnership with the University of Melbourne. Successful completion of the program requires participants to meet all academic and clinical requirements, which form a condition of ongoing employment within the Intensive Care Unit.

This comprehensive program, overseen by our dedicated education team, integrates both clinical and practical components. Supported by a structured curriculum, it includes coursework through The University of Melbourne and hands-on clinical training at Austin Health. Our goal is to equip learners with the necessary skills to deliver high-quality care to patients in a critical care environment.

About you

You are a Registered Nurse with a minimum of two years' acute nursing experience. Passionate about Intensive Care Nursing, you are committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic clinical environment.

You demonstrate excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, coupled with a flexible and innovative approach to service delivery. You are enthusiastic about ongoing learning and professional development, actively seeking opportunities to expand your knowledge and clinical capabilities. With a positive approach to change and diversity, you are committed to achieving both the academic and clinical requirements of this postgraduate program and contributing positively to the Austin Health Intensive Care team.
