Maths Tutor & Program Lead – Yarraville Learning Studio
Matching Minds is preparing to open a new learning studio in Yarraville, and we’re looking for an exceptional Maths tutor to help us bring the program to life.
This is more than a standard tutoring role.
You’ll help shape and deliver our Maths program, working with small groups of students in a semi-private environment of no more than four students at a time.
We’re looking for someone who is genuinely excellent at what they do — confident in Maths, highly reliable, engaging with students and able to adapt their teaching style to suit different learners.
You’ll also be one of the key faces of the Matching Minds Yarraville studio, so professionalism, energy, punctuality and a genuine passion for helping students succeed are essential.
About the role
The studio will operate after school, with sessions generally running between 4pm and 7pm.
We expect this role to initially offer approximately 6–9 hours per week, with the opportunity for additional hours as the studio grows.
Depending on demand, the Maths program may operate across several afternoons each week.
Students will be grouped by similar year level and ability where possible, with a maximum of four students in each session.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Delivering engaging semi-private Maths tutoring sessions
- Helping design, structure and continuously improve the Maths program
- Assessing where students are at academically and identifying areas for improvement
- Tailoring activities and explanations to different learning styles
- Supporting multiple students within the same session while ensuring each student receives individual attention
- Building student confidence and encouraging independent problem solving
- Helping students strengthen foundational Maths skills as well as school-based learning
- Monitoring student progress and adjusting the program where needed
- Creating a positive, calm and engaging learning environment
- Communicating professionally with the Matching Minds team and, where appropriate, parents
- Maintaining a high standard of preparation, punctuality and reliability
What we’re looking for
This role will suit someone who is confident taking ownership of a program rather than simply turning up and working through a worksheet.
You’ll ideally be:
- Highly confident teaching Maths to primary and secondary students
- Strong at explaining concepts in different ways until they make sense
- Comfortable working with small groups of students at different learning speeds
- Patient, encouraging and able to build strong rapport with young people
- Organised and well prepared
- Extremely reliable and punctual
- Comfortable taking feedback and contributing ideas
- Able to create structure while still adapting to the needs of individual students
- Professional and confident communicating with parents and the wider team
- Genuinely passionate about helping students build confidence and improve academically
Previous tutoring or teaching experience is strongly preferred.
We’re particularly interested in applicants studying or qualified in areas such as Mathematics, Engineering, Science, Education, Commerce or other numerate disciplines, although the quality of your tutoring ability and communication skills matter most.
Hours and availability
The Yarraville studio is expected to open in approximately six weeks.
The role is expected to provide around 6–9 hours per week initially, generally between 4pm and 7pm on weekdays.
Exact days will depend on student demand and program scheduling.
There may also be opportunities for additional one-on-one tutoring work with Matching Minds students in the local area.
Requirements
To be considered, you’ll need:
- A current Working with Children Check
- Your own ABN
- Strong Maths knowledge
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Availability during weekday afternoons
- The ability to commit consistently to agreed weekly sessions
- Previous tutoring, teaching, coaching or mentoring experience is preferred
