Your next career opportunity
You will lead a high-tech engineering workshop, delivering safe, hands-on support for teaching, research and student projects. You will guide users through industry-aligned training, manage a skilled technical team and shape inclusive, practical learning environments.

What you will deliver :

Deliver specialist design, CAD/CAM and fabrication services that support teaching, research and competition teams.

Supervise and mentor technicians, allocating work, monitoring performance and ensuring consistent, high-quality service delivery.

Provide industry-aligned, competency-based training and supervision that builds user skills, confidence and safe working habits.

Maintain and service workshop machinery and equipment, embedding Safety-in-Design and rigorous compliance across all activities.

Identify , manage and escalate operational, safety and service risks while coordinating resources with the Makerspace Supervisor.

You may be a great fit if you :

Hold a relevant degree or trade qualification, or equivalent experience, in engineering or technical workshop disciplines.

Bring extensive CAD/CAM and engineering design expertise , including CNC workflows and design-for-manufacture processes.

Lead small technical teams effectively, with a track record of high-quality service and performance management.

Demonstrate strong knowledge of Australian OHS legislation and experience managing operational and safety risks in workshops.

Possess qualifications in one or more technical trades such as machining, fabrication, mechatronics, electronics or digital fabrication.

Offer experience delivering practical, competency-based training or supervision in higher education or industry learning environments.

Your new team sits within the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology’s Infrastructure group, supporting world-class teaching and research. You will join the Workshop, Makerspaces and Engagement team, who run technical spaces, provide expert training and deliver high-quality fabrication services. The team values collaboration, safety, innovation and inclusive hands-on learning, working closely with academics, students and industry partners. You will contribute to reliable, well-managed workshops and makerspaces that help future engineers and technologists thrive.
