About the role
In this role, you will contribute to high-quality library and information services for VLA staff and members of the public. You will conduct legal and non-legal research, curate relevant collections of hard copy and online resources, and train clients to use these resources effectively. You will interpret and prioritize queries, assess information sources for currency, accuracy, authority, and relevance, and provide appropriate and timely responses to clients. Additionally, you will support continuous improvement of library resources, apply established information management principles, and promote library services throughout the organization.
This role is based at our Melbourne CBD office on Wurundjeri Country.
About you
As our ideal candidate, you will possess:

Demonstrated experience in the provision of excellent library reference and research services and ability to interpret complex client information needs. This includes a strong commitment to client services, process improvement, and innovation in service delivery.

Strong technical skills, including cataloguing and processing various library materials, with knowledge of classification and indexing principles.

Demonstrated experience in promotional activities centred around the provision of a reference and research service.

High level organisational and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders, contribute positively to team operations and deliver information skills and legal research training programs.

Ability to use library management systems and quickly learn and utilise new systems and databases.

Required qualifications:

Relevant degree or postgraduate diploma in information management or librarianship, or equivalent professional experience (mandatory)

Experience in a law library and working knowledge of the Australian legal system (desirable)
