ABOUT THE ROLE
FSCI is seeking a skilled and trade-qualified Painting Trades Worker (ANZSCO 332211) to join our expanding team on a full-time, permanent basis. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality painting and finishing works across commercial interior and fit-out projects throughout metropolitan Melbourne.
As a Painting Trades Worker at FSCI, you will be responsible for all aspects of painting and surface finishing on commercial construction and interior fitout sites, working closely with project managers, site supervisors, and other trades to deliver exceptional results on time and within specification.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In line with ANZSCO 332211 — Painting Trades Worker, duties will include but are not limited to:
- Erecting scaffolding and ladders, and placing drop sheets to protect adjacent areas from paint splattering
- Preparing surfaces by removing old paint and wallpaper, fixing woodwork, filling holes and cracks, and smoothing and sealing surfaces
- Selecting and preparing paints to required colours by mixing portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying additives
- Applying paints, varnishes and stains to surfaces using brushes, rollers and spray equipment
- Hanging wallpaper, matching patterns and trimming edges to precise specifications
- Applying specialty finishes including textured coatings, epoxy floors, and fire-resistant coatings as required on commercial projects
- Reading and interpreting architectural plans, specifications, and colour schedules to achieve required finishes
- Inspecting completed surfaces to ensure quality of finish meets project specifications and client expectations
- Cleaning and maintaining equipment, tools, and work areas in accordance with site safety standards
- Repairing windows, replacing glass in wooden and metal frames where required
- Laying and repairing wall and floor tiles where required
- Complying with all Work Health & Safety (WHS) requirements, site induction protocols, and Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS)
- Liaising with project managers, site supervisors, and sub-contractors to coordinate workflow and meet project deadlines
- Maintaining accurate records of materials used and reporting progress to site supervisors
SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREDEssential Requirements:
- Certificate III in Painting and Decorating (CPC30620) or equivalent trade qualification recognised in Australia (AQF Level 3 or above)
- Minimum 1+ years of demonstrated experience in commercial painting and decorating
- Proficiency in all methods of paint application: brush, roller, and spray equipment
- Sound knowledge of surface preparation techniques, including sanding, filling, priming, and sealing
- Ability to read and work from construction drawings, paint schedules, and specifications
- Experience working safely at heights and in active commercial construction environments
- Current or ability to obtain a White Card (General Construction Induction Training –CPCWHS1001)
- Strong attention to detail, precision in finishing, and commitment to quality outcomes
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Good communication skills and ability to liaise professionally with site supervisors and clients
Desirable Requirements:
- Experience in high-end commercial fitout or hospitality/retail environments
- Experience with specialty coatings, decorative finishes, or epoxy flooring
- Current Victorian painter's registration (VBA Registration)
- Valid driver's licence (car)
- Experience with Dulux, Taubmans, or equivalent commercial-grade product systems
