Job Description
Reporting to the Rail Maintenance Planning Manager, the Maintenance Planner plays a critical role in ensuring the effective planning, scheduling and coordination of maintenance activities across our fleet and assets. You will work closely with operations, engineering, and maintenance teams to maximise asset availability while maintaining strict compliance with rail safety standards.
We will trust you with the below responsibilities:
- Owning and optimising rotable demand planning, maintaining visibility of component status and readiness, and developing 6–12 month forecasts.
- Managing end‑to‑end overhaul planning, balancing demand with vendor capacity, and identifying bottlenecks and risks.
- Providing relief support to Maintenance Planning and Scheduling teams, ensuring short‑term execution during peak periods or periods with resource gaps.
- Maintaining accurate lifecycle data, supporting system improvements (SAP, LMR), and ensuring governance of rotable tracking.
- Reducing unplanned maintenance, optimising turnaround times, and driving reliability improvements through strategic overhaul planning.
- Coordinating overhaul programs, managing vendor performance, and mitigating delivery risks.
- Embedding safety into all planning activities and supporting proactive risk identification.
Desired Skills and Experience
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:
- At least 5 years experience in maintenance planning or similar roles
- Knowledge of rollingstock or heavy asset maintenance practices
- SAP or similar enterprise maintenance system experience
- Experience using Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
- Understanding of rail regulatory compliance (RISSB, ONRSR)
- Ability to interpret technical documentation and maintenance requirements
- Demonstrate team work and leadership
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders on all levels.
Desirable
- Logistics background would be an advantage
