The Senior Policy Advisor, Regulatory Reform and Projects is responsible for supporting the review and remake of the Education and Training Reform Regulations 2017. This role will play a central part in driving a review and remake of the regulations that underpin Victoria's education system.

About the Department

The department provides a wide range of learning and development support and services.

The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.

About the Division

Strategy, Policy and National Reform (SPNR) is the driving force behind the strategic policy direction of the Department's education portfolio, focusing on enhancing the learning, wellbeing, and development of school-aged children and young people. Our teams support high-level decision-making processes, aiding senior executives, ministers, and various governance bodies with expert policy advice and strategic insights.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work on developing policy and reform options for the school system. It would suit someone with strong policy, analytical and writing skills who could hit the ground running in a dynamic team.

Note this role will commence on 16 October 2026. This is full-time, Fixed term role until 30 june 2027.

Key tasks include contributing to the team's work may include research, analysing data, producing written materials (such as briefings, PowerPoint slides, submissions, reports, options papers and proposals) for key stakeholders and decision makers and revising policy in response to feedback.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

Policy skills, including ability to deal with complex concepts and analytical challenges, and express these concepts through well-developed written communication.
Effective relationship building, influencing and collaboration skills to ensure policy recommendations are informed by diverse perspectives and are supported by our key partners.
The ability to use project management concepts to manage deliverables and risks and adjust to shifting priorities while taking initiative and accountability for one's own work.
Experience drafting papers and slide decks
Curiosity, adaptability and capacity to learn quickly.

Desirable:

Experience working on regulations within the education sector.
