Multidisciplinary Role Classifications: RPN4/SW3/ OT3/ P3
Two roles available: 1 full-time fixed-term role through to 20 December 2026, and 1 ongoing part-time position.
Location: Thomas Embling Hospital | Maybe required to work at other sites

Forensicare (Victorian Institute of Forensic Mental Health) is Victoria’s specialist provider of forensic mental health services. We deliver recovery-focused programs that support consumers living with serious mental illness or problematic behaviours who are connected to, or at risk of contact with, the justice system, across a variety of settings including community-based services, inpatient units, and secure environments throughout Victoria.

About the Role:
The Prevention and Management of Aggression Trainer (PMoA) is responsible for delivering accredited Prevention and Management of Aggression training that aligns with the Restraint Reduction Network (RRN) standards and Forensicare’s commitment to recovery-focused, trauma-informed care. This role plays a key part in promoting safer environments by equipping staff with the skills to prevent, de-escalate, and manage aggression in ways that uphold consumer dignity and reduce reliance on restrictive practices.

Operating within the broader PMoA Framework, the trainer ensures that all education reflects current evidence, legislative requirements, and best practice principles. Through dynamic facilitation and collaboration, the PMoA Trainer supports a culture of safety, respect, and continuous improvement across clinical settings.

Duties:

Deliver scenario-based training that builds practical skills for managing real-world clinical situations in dynamic environments
Evaluate and continuously improve training programs through feedback, observation, and outcome measures
Provide post-training coaching and support to embed learning into everyday practice and strengthen staff capability
Develop and update training materials in line with current evidence, legislation, and organisational priorities, incorporating insights from incident reviews and debriefs
Promote a culture of safety, respect, and person-centred care by modelling positive behaviours, supporting reflective practice, and applying de-escalation and safety strategies

About You:

Commitment to recovery-oriented, trauma-informed care that respects the dignity, autonomy, and rights of consumers
Experience delivering training in clinical or mental health settings, particularly in safety, communication, and de-escalation
Strong knowledge of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022 and commitment to reducing restrictive practices in line with RRN standards
Collaborative, values-driven professional with a focus on continuous learning, stakeholder engagement, and alignment with organisational mission and values

Qualifications, knowledge, experience:

This is a multidisciplinary opportunity and requires possession of a relevant tertiary qualification and registration or membership with the appropriate Board or Association as a Registered Nurse, Psychologist, Social Worker or Occupational Therapist.
The qualifications required for each discipline are:

Registered Nurse RPN4:

Registered Psychiatric Nurse. Must have current unrestricted registration with AHPRA and a post-graduate qualification in mental health nursing or equivalent.

Psychologist Grade 3:

General registration with AHPRA
Masters or Doctorate qualifications (Clinical, Forensic or Neuropsychology)
Eligibility for (or enrolled in) an Area of Practice Endorsement in clinical psychology, clinical neuropsychology, and/or forensic psychology.

Social Worker Grade 3:

Tertiary qualifications in Social Work coupled with eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).

Occupational Therapist Grade 3:

Current Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner’s Regulations Agency (AHPRA).
Approved degree in Occupational Therapy and recognised for membership of OT Australia – Australian Association of Occupational Therapists.
Understanding and commitment to working within the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia’s Australian Occupational Therapy competency standards (2018) and Code of Ethics.
