Join the Victorian Electoral Commission as a Public Consultation Coordinator and help deliver meaningful community engagement for ward boundary reviews ahead of the 2028 council elections. Working within a collaborative program team, you will coordinate public consultation activities, support online engagement events, and help ensure Victorian communities have the opportunity to contribute to decisions that support fair and equitable representation.

About this opportunity

Reporting directly to the Public Consultation Manager within the Public Consultation Team, this role supports the broader program team completing ward boundary reviews before the 2028 council elections. The Public Consultation Team provides support for all aspects of public consultation for the program, from responding to public enquiries about the reviews, to processing submissions from the public and managing online public consultation events. Ward boundary reviews are carried out under the Local Government Act 2020 and aim to maintain fair and equitable representation for voters, consistent with legislative principles and good practice for representative democracies.

About the team

The Electoral Representation Team leads the VEC's support and delivery of state and local government representation reviews, including support for internal and external review panels. During representation review events, an expanded team is established to deliver review programs.

The Public Consultation Team will work closely with the program's Research and Geospatial teams to deliver the upcoming ward boundary review program and provide high-quality advice and support to the ward boundary review panel.

A day in the life of a Public Consultation Coordinator

You will support the Public Consultation Manager to prepare for and deliver public consultation activities. Your role provides oversight and guidance for the Program Support Officer and casual support staff as they respond to public queries and process written submissions from the public.

You will also play a key role in planning and delivering online public consultation events. You will adapt quickly as priorities shift, particularly during peak periods leading up to public submission deadlines and during public hearings.

About you

Providing effective project coordination in a fast-paced environment, including planning and scheduling, maintaining records, documenting processes and procedures, and supporting delivery to agreed timeframes.
Comfortable running online events in an off-screen role.
Producing accurate and timely work that contributes to team objectives.
Working collaboratively with others, providing guidance to colleagues, and communicating clearly and professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
Responding quickly to changing priorities, identifying and escalating routine issues or risks, and managing competing demands during peak periods.
Worki ng respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds and contributing to a safe, inclusive and productive workplace.
