Position Overview
JLL Design Services is one of the world’s leading real estate and design consultancies, operating across 80 countries with the resources, relationships, and project pipeline of a Fortune 500 company – and the studio culture of a specialist practice. Our Australian Design Services team is an in-house practice delivering workplace, hospitality, retail, and mixed-use interiors at scale, with direct access to JLL’s global network of clients, research, and technology platforms. We are seeking a Mid-Tier Interior Designer who is ready to take ownership of design workstreams and contribute independently to complex projects.
The successful candidate will bring 3–5 years’ experience, solid Revit capability, and the confidence to manage deliverables across corporate workplaces, hospitality, retail, healthcare, and mixed-use developments – creating spaces that enhance user experience and deliver measurable business value.

Key Responsibilities
Design Development & Project Support

Lead assigned design workstreams from concept through construction administration, taking ownership of deliverables and ensuring quality standards and project timelines are met

Develop design concepts that respond to client requirements, site constraints, user needs, and brand identity, and take these through to client-ready presentation stage

Prepare design proposals, mood boards, material palettes, and space plans for presentation to clients and project teams
-
Conduct site assessments, measure existing conditions, and document spatial requirements to inform design development
-
Research materials, finishes, furniture systems, and products that align with project requirements and design intent
-
Coordinate with architects, engineers, consultants, and contractors to support seamless integration of interior design with other building systems
-
Manage furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E) specifications, procurement tracking, and installation coordination for assigned projects
Technical Documentation

Produce construction documentation including floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, elevations, sections, and details using Revit and other design software

Ensure design documentation complies with relevant building codes, accessibility standards (ADA/AS 1428), fire safety regulations, and National Construction Code requirements

Prepare finish schedules, door schedules, furniture schedules, and lighting schedules with accurate specifications and quantities

Coordinate drawing sets with project team members and consultants to identify and help resolve conflicts

Participate in quality control reviews of documentation packages before issue

Assist with responding to RFIs (Requests for Information) during construction under senior designer supervision

Attend site meetings during construction to observe progress and document field conditions
Client & Stakeholder Collaboration

Prepare and deliver client presentations independently, owning the visual communication of design concepts from mood boards through to technical documentation

Participate in design workshops and client meetings to understand organizational culture, functional requirements, and aesthetic preferences

Build professional relationships with clients through responsive communication and quality work

Manage client expectations on assigned projects regarding scope, schedule, and design solutions, escalating to senior designers where required

Incorporate client feedback constructively into design development

Present design concepts to clients and stakeholders with clarity and confidence, fielding questions and responding to feedback in real time
Team Collaboration & Professional Growth

Collaborate effectively with team members at all levels, contributing ideas and supporting project success

Participate in design reviews, offering observations and learning from experienced designers' feedback

Share knowledge regarding materials, products, vendors, and design solutions discovered through research

Contribute to internal initiatives including design standards development, resource libraries, and process improvements

Support and guide graduate and junior designers on assigned projects, contributing to a culture of knowledge sharing and design excellence

Take ownership of assigned tasks while knowing when to ask questions and seek clarification

Maintain organized project files, material samples, and documentation to support team efficiency
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
-
Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or related field from an accredited institution
-
3-5 years of professional experience in interior design practice
-
Working knowledge of design phases from concept development through construction documentation
Technical Skills
-
Proficiency in Revit for 3D modeling and construction documentation (required)

Working capability with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) for presentation materials and graphics

Experience with 3D visualization software (SketchUp, Lumion, Enscape, or similar)
-
Competency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for reports, schedules, and presentations

Familiarity with specification resources and project documentation platforms
-
Basic understanding of lighting design principles and coordination requirements

Awareness of sustainable design principles and rating systems (Green Star, WELL, LEED)
-
Experience with AI-powered design and visualization tools for concept development, rendering enhancement, design iteration, and documentation efficiency

Proficiency with generative AI platforms for design exploration, content creation, specification research, and project documentation support
Design & Professional Competencies

Solid understanding of space planning principles including ergonomics, circulation, zoning, and spatial efficiency

Strong foundation in design fundamentals: colour theory, proportion, scale, texture, pattern, and composition

Growing knowledge of materials and finishes including performance characteristics, applications, and sourcing

Familiarity with furniture systems and workplace design strategies

Working knowledge of building codes and regulations including accessibility compliance and fire safety requirements

Ability to manage assigned tasks effectively while maintaining attention to detail and meeting deadlines

Developing problem-solving capabilities to address design challenges and technical constraints

Good organizational skills for managing project files, material samples, product specifications, and correspondence
