About the Role:
This is a permanent, full-time position within the Central Sterilising Services Department (CSSD), requiring a qualified Grade 4 Instrument Technician capable of working across all areas of the department without direct supervision. The primary purpose of this position is to work within the Team Leader role and be responsible for the co-ordination and provision of CSSD services to ensure that surgical instruments and equipment are reprocessed in compliance with current industry standards of Re-suable Medical Devices (RMDs), infection prevention control and RCH Policy and procedures. This position requires an Instrument Technician with advanced skills who can work in all areas of CSSD with a high degree of autonomy and accountability. This position will work as a key contact for the Perioperative Suite and Division of Surgery, ensuring safe, sterile, and functional instruments are readily available for surgical procedures. Furthermore, this position will provide essential support by carrying out decontamination, packaging, sterilisation and preparation of critical and semi-critical medical devices in alignment with RCH policy.
Internally, this position will be known and referred to as: Instrument Technician - Grade 4.
Classification for this position will be governed by Award 04 - Health and Allied Services at IN4 (Instrument Technician Grade 4), $73,502.00 per annum, plus Superannuation.
What you'll achieve:
Performing all CSSD daily activities and duties, including the decontamination, packaging, sterilisation, and preparation of critical and semi-critical medical devices, ensuring a timely delivery of services and products. All tasks must be performed according to documented instructions and in accordance with current Australian Standards to support the safe and effective delivery of surgical services
Monitoring the operation of all reprocessing equipment and reporting any failures through the internal reporting system for faults and repairs, ensuring the safety of all staff is maintained
Facilitates and monitors the performance and duties undertaken by Grade 1, Grade 2, and Grade 3 Instrument Technicians during their shift and assist in the training and mentoring of new and junior technicians
High proficiency of T-Doc Administration system
Assist the CSSD Loans Officer in processing of loan instrumentation
Participate in CSSD Quality and governance initiatives
Supervision and training of new staff, and newly graduated Instrument Technicians in compliance with the RCH CSSD competency assessment criteria
Acting as a resource for all Grade 1, Grade 2, and Grade 3 staff, with daily use of the TDOC tracking system enabling the process of tracking of all used semi critical and critical patent care items
Ensuring timely delivery of services and products while following documented safe operating procedures and instructions
Monitoring the operation of all reprocessing equipment and reporting failures through the internal reporting system
Your skills and experience:
Holds a Certificate IV in Sterilisation Services or equivalent qualification awarded by a registered training organisation
Has greater than three years’ experience (full-time equivalent) as an Instrument Technician
Extensive knowledge of surgical instrumentation and sterilization procedures and practices
Desirable:
Previous CSSD Team Leader experience
