Job Description:

12 month Full-time fixed term role with potential scope to further extend at the end of the contract
Work within the dynamic Diabetes Technology and Research group
Based at the Fitzroy campus

About the Role

You will work within the department of Endocrinology & Diabetes Research to co-ordinate services for patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. A major part of the role is the management of type 1 and type 2 diabetes clinical trials, both investigator initiated and commercial sponsored studies within the department.

Your duties will include:

Work, and engage as part of a multi-disciplinary team to assist in study protocol implementation, for GMO studies at the study site, SVHM, Diabetes Technology Research Group
Educate study participants per the requirements of the protocol
Collect and analyse samples and relevant data from study participants through the course of all protocol
Handle biohazardous or genetically modified materials in a controlled environment. Provide high level support to other medical staff regarding protocol implementation and be willing to learn and understand the technical operation of diabetes technically related equipment including insulin pumps and CGM and uploading platforms/ software and support the Credentialed Diabetes Educators who are responsible for their management
Ensure that document preparation and storage meet the standards and compliance obligations for clinical research and reporting agencies
In consultation with the Principal Investigator, other senior study staff and Research Portfolio Manager, monitor and review study progress to ensure that study milestones are met according to the agreed timeframes set in the funding agreement
Educate patients on administration and side effect management of treatment
Facilitate patient treatment visits
Monitoring of treatment patients throughout the treatment and follow-up phase
Liaising with Sponsoring Pharmaceutical Companies and Contract Research Organisation.
Co-ordinate patient visit schedules and patient progress
Ensure GCP and study related courses are up to data
Attend all relevant meetings, this includes study meetings, monitoring meetings and professional development days
Identify and consult with patients regarding participation and involvement of clinical trial
Perform Venepuncture, ECG and Venous cannulation
Preparation and distribution of blood and urine products nationally and internationally
Maintain drug company patient files and investigator site files.
Maintain filing of essential documents relating to patient files and clinical research files.
Ensure research data is collected and recorded in the appropriate database
Ensure interactions with patients are recorded appropriately and up to data
Ensure appropriate storage and security of patient record
Collection and electronic recording of research data

Classifications for this position will be RN47 - RN48 ($134,498.00 $137,696.00 per annum).

Your Contribution

Undergraduate degree in general nursing, which meets the registration requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia
Current practicing certificate
Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia
Current Good Clinical Practice certification
Advanced clinical nursing skills
current national criminal history check or willing to obtain

Preferred requirements:

Clinical trial experience
Experience with GMO projects and familiar with SOPs pertinent to this area of expertise
Experience working with genetically modified organisms, gene therapy, or advanced biological therapies
Understanding of biosafety principles and regulatory frameworks governing GMO use
Must be able to work flexible hours and days
Must be competent in Venepuncture
Must be competent in Venous cannulation
Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, particularly to respond professionally and appropriately as a representative of St. Vincent’s
Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team
Ability to work independently and prioritise tasks and manage timelines and excellent attention to detail
Advanced and competent computer skills across multiple platforms
Compliance with institutional biosafety and infection control training

About Diabetes Technology and Research Group

Located at SVHM in the Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, the appointee will be responsible for the effective protocol implementation of GMO (Genetically Modified Organism) specific diabetes clinical research at St Vincent’s Hospital and collaborating centers. This research will primarily focus on novel therapies and their interface with people living with diabetes.
