Primary objective
To assist teachers in implementing educational programs set by teachers or therapists for students aged 5-17 years who have
intellectual and/or multiple and disabilities and provide feedback to teachers to allow program modification and accurate
assessments to be made.
Context statement
Maningrida Community College is located in one of the largest Aboriginal communities in the Northern Territory, 550 km east of
Darwin. Maningrida Community College offers education to approximately 660 students from preschool to senior years and
provides education services to up to 15 Homeland Learning Centres. The College incorporates a Family and Children Centre,
Families as First Teachers program, Trade Training Centre, Learning on Country Program and Indigenous Languages and Culture
Team.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Implement educational programs set by teachers or therapists either in a school setting or out in community venues.
2. Follow and implement behaviour management programs set by teachers and senior staff.
3. Maintain appropriate records for teachers to monitor the effectiveness of programs.
4. Administer first aid and attend to sick students, as necessary.
5. Assist teachers with the preparation and presentation of classroom organisation, activities, and teaching aids.
6. As a team member, plan, prepare and be involved in a range of activities such as school camps, excursions, or school concerts.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience working with and ability to relate effectively with children from preschool-year 12 who have
intellectual and/or multiple and profound disabilities.
2. Proven ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures and work collaboratively with teachers to improve
student outcomes.
3. Proven proficiency in the use of office equipment to create classroom resources.
4. Demonstrated ability to use individual learning plans to provide classroom adjustments and lead small group activities.
5. Proven ability to complete tasks, work with initiative, limited supervision and to maintain complete confidentiality.
6. A current First Aid qualification with proven ability to support administration of student medication.
Desirable
1. A current NT Drivers Licence. The ability and willingness to obtain a Light Rigid (LR) Licence.
2. Certificate IV in Education Support.
3. Certificate IV in Training and Assessment

1. This position is based in a school, and the successful applicant is required to possess a current Working with Children Clearance
Notice and undergo a criminal history check.
2. This position does not come with housing; successful applicant must reside in Maningrida.
