A unique opportunity exists for a strategic and experienced Governance professional with an interest in delivering and driving a proactive compliance and governance framework across the organisation.
The position is part of a specialised, dynamic and high performing Governance Services Team.
Due to the nature of work and the need to attend Council and Committee meetings, it is essential that applicants are flexible in being able to work after hours when required.
You will be responsible for:
- Coordinating and maintaining the City’s Corporate Governance Framework to ensure organisational transparency, accountability and compliance with Local Government Act 1995 and statutory obligations.
- Supporting the development and maintenance of the City’s Policy Plan and ongoing review and development of procedures and undertake governance projects as required to support continuous improvement.
- Coordinating the delivery of the Local Governance Election.
- Managing the City’s corporate compliance, systems and controls to ensure statutory compliance.
- Providing advice and assistance in relation to the City’s statutory compliance registers in accordance with the Local Government Act 1995.
- Supporting the CoM administrative requirements to ensure Officers are able to enact their authorisations including ID photos, ID cards, certificates, record keeping and advertising in the Government Gazette, State and/or local publications.
- Providing high level support and communication to the Governance Services team and City of Mandurah ensuring the effective provision of service.
- Reporting to the Coordinator Governance and Risk, responsible for the Council and Committee meeting governance requirements in accordance with Local Government Act 1995, regulations, and City procedures, including attendance to meetings, compiling agendas and minutes and maintaining registers.
- Providing minute officer support for Council and Committee meetings.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Certificate IV in Business, Governance or Law, or related discipline.
- Five years’ experience in governance or compliance related roles.
- Delivery of statutory local government requirements in the Governance context.
- Sound working knowledge and understanding of the Local Government Act 1995 and its subsidiary regulations.
- Excellent organisational, time management and administrative skills, with a proven ability to effectively prioritise tasks to meet strict deadlines.
- Experience in minute taking in a local government setting.
- Capacity to work autonomously and independently with high work ethics.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills.
- Advanced skills in the application of the Microsoft Office suite and relevant systems.
- Ability to handle sensitive material/issues with tact and strict confidentiality.
- Ability to identify solutions and present options based to reduce risk.
- An understanding of contemporary corporate and/or local government meeting procedures and practices.
- Have the ability to meet strict deadlines whilst managing competing priorities and delivering a high-quality product.
- Sound research, analytical and stakeholder liaison skills.
- Project management skills with the ability to prioritise time and ensure the delivery of multi stakeholder projects.
- Ability to produce accurate and high-quality governance documentation.

- The salary for this role commences at step 1, with potential for movement within the range based on demonstrated skills and experience. Incremental progression typically occurs at the conclusion of each 12-month period, in accordance with the Industrial Agreement.
