The Department of Justice and Community Safety (Youth Justice) is responsible for the statutory supervision of young people in the criminal justice system in Victoria focusing on prevention, diversion, and early intervention as the most effective and fiscally responsible ways of reducing youth crime. Youth Justice is committed to the demonstration of the Victorian Public Sector values. The values are: responsiveness, integrity, impartiality, accountability, respect, leadership and human rights.
Youth justice custodial centres accommodate young people aged 12-18 years who have been remanded or sentenced by the Criminal Division of the Children's Court, and some 18-21 year olds sentenced by Adult Courts to a youth justice custodial centre.
The Admissions Officer is responsible for admission processes and technology systems that support young people entering youth justice precincts, with Parkville serving as the primary admissions site. The role is responsible for accurate Client Relationship Information System (CRIS) data entry and maintaining the quality and integrity of admission records. The positions will coordinate the transfer of young people between Cherry Creek and Malmsbury Youth Justice Precincts, including admissions from courts.
As an Admissions Officer, you will be required and supported to complete the fully funded and provided Certificate IV in Youth Justice as a key component of your role.
The opportunity

Ongoing, full-time position based at the Malmsbury Youth Justice Precinct but working flexibly across other Youth Justice Custodial Precincts (Parkville & Cherry Creek), where needed to respond to operational requirements.

YJW1 role: $62,104 - $79,753 per year plus super.

Maintain a secure environment for the benefit of young people, staff and the community, and record client movements, conduct searches and security checks and monitor alarms.
-
Ensure admission processes are followed and technology systems updated to support young people transferring between Parkville, Cherry Creek and Malmsbury Youth Justice Precincts.

Provide care, supervision, safety and support for young people in youth justice facilities.
-
Have key responsibility for organising all transport for young people with between precincts or court admissions.
-
Have key responsibility for notifying all relevant professionals and agencies when a client is admitted or released.
-
Have key responsibility for CRIS data entry of all client admissions, and releases, court appearances and outcomes, sentences, bail, temporary leave and other relevant information.

Ensure quality and integrity of CRIS admission data is maintained and reviewed.

Conduct all young people searches upon admission or return from temporary leaves, including a high level of search skill to incorporate changes in legislation.

Perform other duties such as young people escorts, supervising visits, managing client property and other administration duties as required.

Assist with any operational requirements relating to the reception in the precinct.
To be successful in this role, you will have:

Excellent administrative and data entry skills.

An understanding of the Youth Justice CRIS sys tem would be highly regarded.

A comprehensive understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.

The ability to effectively manage the challenging behaviours of young people.

The ability to create a safe and rehabilitative environment for young people.

The ability to apply an understanding of adolescent development and the issues impacting young

people.
A current employee Working with Children Check (WWCC) card is required and will need to be provided prior to commencement of employment by the applicant. Currency will need to be maintained by the employee for the period of employment.
