About the Opportunity

Looking to gain a competitive edge ahead of graduation?

If you are completing a degree in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Chemistry or Chemistry and are keen to apply your knowledge in a real world research and operational environment, the ANSTO Minerals Year in Industry Internship Program offers a unique opportunity to build practical experience alongside leading scientists and engineers.

Designed for penultimate-year students, this 12 month full-time program provides hands-on, industry-based learning. You will apply your academic knowledge in a professional setting while developing technical and workplace skills that will enhance the value of your remaining studies and future career.

Important: This is a full-time placement, and participants are required to defer their university studies for the duration of the program.

Your Placement:

As an intern within ANSTO Minerals, you will contribute to bench and pilot-scale process development activities. This may include:

Conducting bench and pilot-scale test work
Designing, setting up, and operating laboratory and pilot equipment
Performing sampling and chemical analysis
Assessing data and preparing preliminary reports and
Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

About You

We are seeking students who demonstrate:

A genuine interest in a hands-on research and development environment within the minerals industry
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
A proactive approach to learning and applying technical knowledge
A clear commitment to safety

Eligibility & Application

Preferred fields of study:

Chemical Engineering
Industrial Chemistry
Chemistry

To be eligible, you must:

Be an Australian citizen
Be able to obtain and maintain the required security clearance and pass a pre-employment medical assessment
Be currently enrolled in a relevant degree, ideally in their penultimate year with at least one full year of study remaining
Be available to understand a full-time, 12-month placement and commit to deferring university studies for the duration of the program
Have experience in a university or industry laboratory, or have undertaken chemistry / chemical engineering-related projects
Have hands-on experience within a process or mechanical environment (desirable)
Hold a current driver’s licence and have access to a vehicle (desirable)
