Canterbury College is one of Queensland's leading Anglican ELC-12 schools, located in the rapidly growing corridor spanning Logan, the northern Gold Coast and southern Brisbane. We are seeking an outstanding Teacher of English and Literature to join our Senior School from the commencement of the 2027 academic year. This is a permanent, full-time appointment created by sustained enrolment growth across our cohorts, and it reflects the central place these subjects hold in the life of the school.
Since 1987, Canterbury has deliberately built a culture that is both high-performing and deeply human. Our students are known not only for their academic outcomes, but for the way they contribute across the full life of the College. We believe that the best education is balanced, ambitious and future-focused, where learning extends beyond the classroom and where every student is challenged to grow. This is captured through our commitment to the Four Dimensions: Academics, Sport, Performing Arts and Character, Leadership and Service. These are not add-ons. They are integral to how we design learning, build community and develop confident, capable young people who are ready for the world beyond school.
Recognised as a Microsoft Showcase and Lighthouse School and a member of the Round Square network, Canterbury holds English and Literature at the heart of its academic ambition. We want our students to read closely, write with precision and argue with conviction, and we want a teacher who treats language and literature as disciplines worth mastering rather than boxes to be ticked.
The successful applicant will teach English across Years 7 to 12 under the QCAA General syllabus, together with Literature across Years 10 to 12, joining an established and high-performing team that already carries strong student numbers. You will work within a Senior School known for its collegiality, its commitment to evidence-based pedagogy, and its expectation that every student is challenged to think well rather than simply to perform. Our academic culture is serious about results, but it is built on something deeper than results alone. We value teachers who read widely, who debate ideas with their colleagues, and who treat their subject as a living discipline rather than a fixed body of content to be delivered.
This culture is reflected in our outcomes. In 2025, 54% of our Year 12 cohort achieved an ATAR of 90 or higher, and our Year 9 NAPLAN performance placed Canterbury among the top coeducational independent schools in Queensland and the highest-performing school in Logan. Within English and Literature, more than 90% of students typically attain an A or B result. We are looking for a teacher who wants to build on results of that calibre rather than simply maintain them.
At Canterbury, you will teach students who bring energy and focus to their learning. Our young people are known for being kind, polite and motivated, and for their willingness to embrace challenge and pursue excellence across all areas of College life.
This appointment would suit either an experienced English and Literature specialist or a strong English teacher with the subject knowledge and ambition to take on senior Literature within a thriving programme.
