Position Description
This Position Description is a guide only and is not intended to be an exhaustive or exclusive list of the duties
attached to this position. The Position Description is subject to review and modification by the Principal, in
response to the strategic direction of the School and the development of the skills and knowledge of the
position.

Position Title Learning Support Assistant (Senior School)

Reporting Manager Head of Learning Enrichment 7-12.

Role Purpose The Learning Support Assistant has the responsibility to support Danebank’s
aspiration and intent, upholding its core values and Christian foundation.

The Learning Support Assistant is passionate about learning and deeply
committed to the wellbeing and growth of each student.

The Learning Support Assistant provides support in classrooms across all
KLA’s, for students with identified diverse learning needs including disability,
under the direction and supervision of the Head of Learning Enrichment and
classroom teachers, to support the achievement of educational outcomes.

The Learning Support Assistant is responsible for creating and maintaining
effective learning environments which support the learning needs of the
students. The role will include providing support for teachers in the
implementation of individual learning plans, and for the student, in
accessing modified or differentiated programs within mainstream classroom
settings. The role may also require working 1:1 with students, in small
groups, on explicit targeted programs such as MacqLit.

Specific Duties and
Responsibilities

Actively support the Christian ethos of the school, modelling a Christian

example in all activities.

Create inclusive, safe and supportive learning environments that model
Christian world views.

Learning

Supporting students under the direction of teaching staff
Supporting student learning for students who have identified

learning difficulties and/or disabilities, with teaching, learning
activities, small group work and assessments.

Support the learning in specialist classrooms such as kitchens,

science labs, drama studios, art studios, sport and computer labs.

Maintain daily records of assistance provided to targeted students

for the purposes of the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data, as
requested.

Independently supervise students transitions between classrooms

or learning experience.

Proactively communicates with students, colleagues and parents /

carers in a respectful, caring and professional way.

Assist in running programs for students to improve literacy such as

MacLit, Multilit and other targeted programs.

Assist with administrative duties as required to produce program

resources.

Independently supervise assessments or assist students who may

require special provisions during assessment tasks.

Attend Learning Enrichment Team meetings when required.
Attend professional development courses.
Undertake a Stocktake of resources at the end of the year.
Other tasks may be required from time to time to assist in the

smooth running of the school.

Support small groups including learning or playground duty (small

groups) as needed

Wellbeing

Establish rapport with students and provide ongoing

encouragement to support students’ emotional and social
wellbeing.

Maintain professional confidentiality on information about

students.

Liaise with teachers and other staff as necessary regarding

students’ wellbeing.

Seek advice, work cooperatively with and refer students to

specialist staff where required.

Provide the appropriate duty of care and supervision of students.

Communication and Engagement

Proactively communicates with students, colleagues and parents /

carers in a respectful, caring and professional way.

Work collaboratively with colleagues.
Participate in and support students in co-curricular activities that

provide students with further opportunities to build character.

Independently supervise students requiring additional support at

camps.

Participate in and support student learning at all mandatory school

functions such as chapels, connect class, assembly, as required.

Any other duties as may be required by the Principal.

working with students with diverse learning needs.

Proven capacity to assist with the development of relevant,

structured, learning opportunities with clear time-frames and
deadlines, where process as well as content is made explicit and
where students are encouraged to demonstrate their learning in a
variety of ways and in a variety of settings.

Possess high quality interpersonal and communication skills, a

dedication to the team along with and a strong commitment to
supporting a culture of inclusivity.

Experience in working with students with diverse learning needs

including neurodiverse students and those with intellectual
disabilities.

new technology as needed to support personal skills development.
