The Tasmanian Walking Company (TWC) have been walking for over 30 years, offering amazing wilderness experiences to our guests in some of Tasmania's most special and remote wilderness locations. We work to deliver a truly immersive experience as we create connections between people and place in remote cultural landscapes through our boutique multi-day walking experiences.

Whilst our roots lie in Tassie, we operate on mainland Australia as The Australian Walking Company (AWC) and are excited to be experiencing a growth phase in the business as we introduce a number of new walks.

This is a part-time permanent position (0.5 FTE, 38 hours per fortnight), working with a team of passionate professionals behind you who engage with your ongoing development and learning.

The team inhabit a heritage listed Chalmers Church located in the heart of the Launceston CBD. A convict-built landmark that was thoughtfully restored into a functional open plan office, staying true to the gothic revival architecture that makes this building truly unique. With sunlight streaming through the original stained windows, Chalmers is a vibrant and stylish office that’s also reflective of the fun and supportive culture of our team.

About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Accountant to join the team in our Launceston office. This role supports the finance team and the wider business in the timely and accurate preparation of payroll for all employees across our company.

This is a part-time role of 38 hours per fortnight. The role can be completed across 3, 4 or 5 days per week, with hours and days to be negotiated during recruitment.

Reporting to the Head of Corporate Services, the role's responsibilities will include:

Finance

Preparation of journal entries and reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, including intercompany balances
Assist in preparation of monthly management reports, including Profit and Loss, Balance Sheet and Cashflow within designated timeframes.
Assist in preparation of supporting working papers for annual financial statements and taxation returns
Completion of weekly bank reconciliations
Ad hoc financial analysis as required
Monitor accounts receivable/payable and work with key stakeholders within the business and operational departments to ensure all outstanding accounts are collected/paid within agreed terms
Assist in maintenance of accounting and tax fixed assets registers for all entities
Support external audits including preparing documentation, answering queries and coordinating responses from other TWC staff
Adhere to applicable internal controls including internal audit reporting

The ideal candidate for this key role will have the following skills and experience:

2-5 years’ experience in a similar accounting role
Knowledge, skills and experience in using the Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Microsoft Excel) and varied accounting software
Tertiary qualification (degree or diploma in an accounting discipline)
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated attention to detail including delivering to agreed timelines
Proven ability to simultaneously manage a number of competing priorities and activities in a fast-paced environment
