Make a Difference for Children and Families
CatholicCare Tasmania is seeking a passionate and experienced Case Worker to join our Integrated Family Support Services team. This rewarding role provides outreach-based support to children and families who are at risk or have had involvement with Child Safety Services.
As a Case Worker, you will work directly with families in their homes and communities, delivering practical, therapeutic and strengths-based interventions that improve child safety, strengthen parenting capacity, and promote positive family outcomes. Your work will help families build safe, stable and nurturing environments, reducing the need for ongoing statutory intervention.
About the Role
You will provide case management and intensive family support to families referred through the Strong Families Safe Kids (SFSK) Advice and Referral Line and Allocation Services.
Working collaboratively with families, Child Safety Services, and community agencies, you will:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments, risk assessments and safety planning.
- Develop and implement case plans tailored to family needs and goals.
- Provide parenting education, family life skills coaching and practical in-home support.
- Monitor family progress using evidence-based tools, including the Outcomes Star.
- Support families experiencing complex challenges, including family violence, trauma and child safety concerns.
- Advocate for families and facilitate referrals to appropriate community services.
- Maintain accurate case notes, client records and reports within required timeframes.
- Participate in clinical supervision, team meetings, professional development and quality improvement activities.
About You
You are a compassionate, resilient and skilled practitioner who enjoys working alongside vulnerable families to create meaningful change.
To be successful, you will have:
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Child Safety system and issues impacting vulnerable children and families.
- Experience working with families experiencing complex needs, including family violence, trauma and high levels of resistance.
- Strong case management skills, including developing case plans, safety plans and risk assessments.
- Sound understanding of child development and the impact of trauma on children and family functioning.
- Excellent communication, relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and across community service networks.
- Strong report writing, organisational and administrative skills.
- Competency in Microsoft Office and client management systems.
- The ability to work autonomously while remaining connected to a supportive team environment.
Essential Requirements
- Qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Community Services, Welfare Studies or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Current driver's licence
- Current Working with Vulnerable People Registration (or ability to obtain).
- National Police Check
- Understanding of mandatory reporting obligations and child-centred practice.

Selection Criteria
1. Commitment to the vision, mission and values of CatholicCare Tasmania; and a broad understanding of the operation of the Catholic Church in Tasmania.
2. Demonstrated high level working knowledge of the Child Safety System and understanding of the issues that impact on families within this system, particularly family violence.
3. Demonstrated ability to develop case plans, safety plans, and risk assessments which relate appropriate models of intervention that assist and empower families.
4. Demonstrated knowledge and competencies appropriate to working with vulnerable families including the ability to engage and work effectively with high level family resistance and complex family needs across multiple developmental stages.
5. Demonstrated knowledge of child developmental stages, and the impact of trauma on childhood development and behaviour.
6. Demonstrated experience of working collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team, across agency programs and with other agencies in the community.
