About the Role
Our Chlor-Alkali manufacturing facility located in Lytton QLD produces Sodium Hypochlorite, Hydrochloric Acid and Caustic Soda for the water treatment industry, swimming pool industry and local industrial customers.
Reporting to the Production Superintendent, the Plant Technician (Shift Operator - Trainee Level 1) position is critical to ensuring ongoing business success. This position allows for the successful candidate to move from the Shift Operator - Level 1 to full Shift Operator role within 18 months. Full on the job training and development is provided.
This role is a shift position, operating a 12-hour shift, working 4-days on (with two-day shifts, followed by two-night shifts) with 4-days off.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate, monitor and adjust chlor-alkali production equipment, including electrolytic cells, brine purification systems, and associated utilities.
- Conduct routine inspections to ensure equipment is functioning correctly and identify potential issues before they escalate.
- Take and analyse process samples to maintain product quality and optimise plant performance.
- Record operating data, maintain accurate logs, and report deviations.
- Follow established operating procedures and safety protocols, including handling hazardous chemicals and responding to alarms.
- Assist with start-ups, shutdowns, maintenance activities and equipment isolation.
- Work collaboratively with maintenance, engineering and transport teams.
The Successful Candidate will have
- Experience as an operator in the chemical processing industry (desirable but not essential)
- The motivation to undertake theoretical and practical training to allow for progression in a timely manner.
- A strong work ethic, self-motivation, and the ability to work autonomously
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
- Sound computer skills to support operational processes
- A genuine interest in being part of a small, flexible team
