The Opportunity
Arc Infrastructure is seeking a Communications Engineer to join our Technology team based at our Head Office near Perth Airport. This is a Perth-based role is a 24-month fixed-term contract, working within our Technology Strategy & Project Delivery function.
You will support the Principal Communications Engineer in delivering communications engineering solutions across a diverse portfolio of rail infrastructure projects, contributing to the design, implementation and support of critical communications systems across IT and OT environments.
The Role
As a Communications Engineer you will be responsible for delivering end-to-end engineering across the project lifecycle from design through to commissioning.
This is a project-focused engineering role where you will translate solution designs into deployable technical design and contribute to the ongoing evolution of Arc’s communications network.
Key responsibilities include:
- Deliver assigned communications engineering work packages across project lifecycles (design, build, test, commissioning)
- Contribute to and produce technical design documentation (TDDs, LLDs, implementation plans)
- Support the integration of communications systems across IT and OT environments, ensuring secure and reliable operation
- Ensure designs align with approved standards, architectures and engineering frameworks
- Perform testing, validation and commissioning of communications systems
- Support technical oversight of vendors and delivery partners
- Identify and manage technical risks and escalating where required
- Support operational readiness activities including documentation and handover to operations
- Provide guidance and advice to our Communication Technicians team
- Participate in change management processes and continuous improvement initiatives
About You
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
- Degree in Engineering (Communications, Electrical, or similar)
- Approximately 2–5 years’ experience in communications engineering, ideally within infrastructure or operational environments
- Experience supporting project-based delivery (design, implementation, commissioning)
- Strong understanding of engineering standards, cybersecurity and system integration principles
- Current Driver’s Licence
Technical Experience (desirable across several areas):
- IT/OT networking (Layer 2/3 switching, routing, MPLS)
- Optical fibre and WDM solutions (CWDM/DWDM)
- Microwave radio and private mobile radio networks
- Telephony and collaboration systems (VoIP, recording)
- Edge devices and interfaces (serial data, VF circuits)
- Communication huts and infrastructure design
- Radio mast/tower configurations
- DC power systems including solar and battery solutions
