Primary objective
To work collaboratively within the Leadership Team to build capacity of all staff, identify and work towards ongoing school
improvements, oversee curriculum and assessment implementation to achieve quality educational outcomes for students.
Context statement
Katherine South Primary School is an open plan school of approximately 220 students. The primary school is located in
Katherine South on Riverbank Drive and includes Preschool to year 6. Of the student enrolment, approximately 42% are
Indigenous. The school is a high performing learning community with a clear focus on inclusiveness, celebrating diversity and
growing a strong sense of community.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Undertake an appropriate teaching load.
2. Provide effective leadership to ensure the delivery of high quality, educational programs and the implementation of
curriculum across the school in line with Departmental and School policies to meet student needs within the school.
3. Provide leadership, professional development and support for teachers in developing and implementing best teaching
practices.
4. Lead, mentor and coach school wide staff teams in the use and analysis of data for delivery of quality learning programs.
5. As an effective member of the Leadership team, participate in the formulation and review of school policies, procedures
and improvement planning and assist in implementing the School Improvement Plan.
6. Provide a leadership role in behaviour management and the wellbeing of students.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Registration with the Teacher Registration Board of the NT and current Working with Children card (OCHRE card).
2. Lead Teaching Teams in the effective development and implementation of educational programs that are student centred,
data informed with a focus on intentional and explicit teaching.
3. A proven ability to participate in the development and effective implementation of policy, procedures and strategic plans,
specifically aligned to improving teaching and learning.
4. Demonstrated ability to support and develop staff through coaching and mentoring, the delivery of targeted professional
learning and collaborative practices.
5. Demonstrated capacity to develop constructive and respectful relationships with staff, students, parents and other
stakeholders including an ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
Desirable
1. Demonstrated understanding of Positive Behaviour Theory and Restorative Practice.
