About the Role
This is your chance to shape the future of our farm from soil to harvest! We are seeking a highly motivated, hands-on individual to join our Katherine farm team.
In this role, you will repair, maintain and test motor vehicles and other internal combustion engines and related mechanical components. You will also be responsible to maintain, test, and repair petrol engines and the mechanical parts of lightweight motor vehicles such as transmissions, suspension, steering and brakes.
You able to juggle various and at times challenging farming priorities that will lead to our success. You will make an impact, building relationships across the business and be an exceptional leader for your team.
Key Responsibilities
- Detecting and diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults in engines and parts.
- Dismantling and removing engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms and other components, and checking parts.
- Repairing and replacing worn and defective parts and reassembling mechanical components.
- Performing scheduled maintenance services, such as oil changes, lubrications and engine tune-ups.
- Reassembling engines and parts after being repaired.
- Inspect vehicles and issue roadworthiness certificates or detail work required to achieve roadworthiness.
- Diagnose and repair instruments and warning systems.
- Diagnose and repair vehicle dynamic control systems.
- Service air conditioning and HVAC systems.
- Carry out soft soldering techniques.
- Repair electrical systems.
- Carry out oxy acetylene welding, thermal cutting and thermal heating procedures.
- Service and maintain battery electric vehicles.
- Test, charge and replace batteries.
- Inspect, service and repair auxiliary braking systems.
- Some general maintenance is required on bore pumps and angle drives.
- Analyse and evaluate electrical and electronic faults in monitoring and protection systems.
- Develop and apply network electronic control system modifications.
- Develop a team approach to problem solving and encourage innovative practice.
- Provide effective communications that foster positive relationships at all levels.
- Within your area of responsibility, ensure compliance with work health and safety legislation and work health and safety policies and procedures.
- Contribute to organisational continuous quality improvement and internal reporting.
- Take reasonable care to protect the health and safety of staff and others.
- Actively participate in safety improvement activities.
- Some tractor driving in slow periods.
Experience required
- Qualification or trade or equivalent in a relevant vocation.
- At least two years relevant post-qualification experience.
- Driver's License essential.
- Must hold a current car licence (C class) as a minimum requirement for this position.
- Sound knowledge and relevant experience in mechanics, pneumatics, and hydraulics highly regarded.
- Previous experience in maintaining farm equipment highly regarded.
- Strong physical fitness and endurance for outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to follow safety protocols and use personal protective equipment.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team.
