Remuneration package of up to $196,467 per annum*
- Remuneration is based on maximum base salary ($157,135), superannuation ($18,856) and attraction and retention incentive (ARI) payments ($20,476) and leave loading.
ARI payments are subject to periodic review and approval. The ARI payment is set to expire on 31 December 2026. Extension of the ARI payment beyond that term is subject to further government decision.

The role
In the role of Inspector of Mines – Mining Engineer, you will form part of a dynamic team responsible for administering the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 and the Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022. Drawing on your substantial mining engineering experience and exposure to mine safety systems, you will play a vital role in driving continuous improvement, conducting inspections, technical audits and investigations, preparing reports, and promoting best practices across the industry.
Your leadership, analytical and stakeholder engagement skills, combined with your experience in mining operations, safety regulations, and regulatory or risk management environments within the resources sector, will be essential to your success in this role.
You will bring to the role expertise in work health and safety legislation, investigative and enforcement practices, and governance frameworks, along with the ability to manage complex and sensitive matters, mentor others, and build strong relationships with industry stakeholders while promoting a proactive safety culture.

While this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other similar vacancies (permanent, fixed-term, full-time or part-time) within the department for the next 12 months, from the date that the recruitment breach period is finalised.

Eligibility
To be eligible for a permanent appointment, applicants must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or have a visa to live and work indefinitely in Australia at the time of application. Applicants with a valid visa to work and live in Australia for a specific duration may be assessed and considered suitable for similar fixed term vacancies that arise.
Should a qualification be required for this position, applicants must provide their certification and/or academic transcripts to verify relevance to the job requirements. Qualifications obtained outside of Australia must be provided with an assessment from the Overseas Qualifications Unit to ensure they meet Australian Standards (this is a free service).
To work for LGIRS, you must consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a clearance before you start. If deemed suitable, LGIRS will coordinate and pay for your NCCHC as part of your pre-employment checks.

- Bachelor of Engineering in mining, or other approved bachelor’s degree related to the resources sector.
