Inverell Shire Council is looking for a General Assistant to join our Civil Engineering team. The successful applicant shall be a member of the Construction Surveillance Section, and be responsible for the satisfactory execution of general road maintenance and construction duties. This position is an opportunity funded under the Elsa Dixon Aboriginal Employment Grant, Equity Programs, Skills and Workforce. This initiative is designed to support Aboriginal people to access employment and career development pathways into the Local Government sector and in Closing The Gap.

About Inverell Shire Council and the Civil Services team

Under the direction of Council's Manager Civil Engineering, Council's Civil Services team is responsible for a variety of tasks in the support of the Inverell Shire Council's services to the community:

Construction and ongoing maintenance of a variety of Council assets including roads, stormwater pipes, bridges, parks and gardens and a variety of other assets!
Road maintenance and repair service for Inverell and surrounding communities.
General Assistants form a crucial part of a larger team, including truck drivers, tradespeople, plant operators and contractors with a number of specialities.
Provide support to other areas of Council in our day-to-day operations, which can range from emergency and disaster response, event support and more.

Applicants should address the following Selection Criteria:

NSW Class C Drivers Licence;
SafeWork NSW General Construction Induction card (‘White Card’); and
Must identify as Aboriginal and/ or Torres Strait Islander.

Employment will be in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Local Government (State) Award 2023. The classification for the position will be up to Operational Band 1, Level 2, Grade 2. Salary will be in accordance with qualifications and experience, and will be in a range from $1,029.85 to $1,086.54 gross per week. In addition, a Level 1 Adverse Working Conditions Allowance of $0.513 per hour will be paid where applicable.
