About the role

We are seeking an experienced and certified Genetic Counsellor to join the Grade 4 team within the combined Parkville Familial Cancer Centre and Adult Genetics service. In this role, you will provide expert genetic counselling to individuals and families attending Familial Cancer and Adult Genetics clinics across The Royal Melbourne Hospital, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and regional outreach services, supporting equitable access to specialised genetic healthcare.

As a Certified Genetic Counsellor, you will play a key role by providing clinical oversight and support to the genetic counselling team while contributing to organisational development and day-to-day operations. Working within a collaborative multidisciplinary environment, you'll help deliver high-quality, patient-centred care and drive continuous improvement across a respected statewide genetics service.

Key Accountabilities

Clinical support and education for associate genetic counsellors.
Expert genetic counselling to patients / clients.
Support genetic counsellors in their day-to-day work.
Developing, establishing and implementing clinical models of care for Genetic Medicine & FCC patients, including psychosocial support.
Operationalising the development and delivery of clinical programs within the department, together with the other Grade 4 and 5 genetic counsellors in the team.
Flexibly managing responsibility for own complex clinical caseload, supervision, quality assurance, and service provision.
Use prioritisation and time management skills to meet the requirements to deliver clinics.
Works effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

About You

FHGSA (Genetic Counselling) – or equivalent
Strong communication, clinical reasoning and prioritisation skills
Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
Compassionate, adaptable and motivated, with a positive attitude
Committed to The Melbourne Way and making a difference every day

Desirable

Previous experience in the supervision of Associate Genetic Counsellors, would be advantageous
