Band 7 - Salary Range $109,825 to $122,758 per annum + 12% Super + ADO

The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Open Space Planner in the City Strategy Department. You will report to the Coordinator of Open Space Planning and will be responsible for managing and providing guidance on the preparation, assessment, and implementation of plans, strategic documents, and other projects that require open space planning expertise.
You will have a lead role in the Open Space Planning team, guiding public realm and open space development, with the capacity to lead within multi-disciplinary teams and plan for and facilitate effective community and stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a diverse portfolio of projects, strategies, policies and guidelines related to open space planning and landscape, ensuring timely execution while adhering to policies, objectives, and budgets.
- Manage consultants and contractors undertaking work on behalf of the Council to achieve agreed project outcomes and high-quality results subject to professional and regulatory review.
- Provide specialist advice to other staff, management, Councillors, external providers including landscape architects and developers, and the community on open space matters subject to professional and regulatory review.
- Represent Council on Committee and public meetings as required to ensure the achievement of goals and objectives or on the public perception of the organisation.
- Support the Coordinator and Team Leader Open Space Planning to mentor staff and contribute towards the continuous improvement of the team performance.
- Undertake any powers, duties, or functions delegated under Planning and Subdivision legislation from time to time by Council.
- Oversee the procurement of resources for assigned projects in accordance with Council’s Procurement Policy, Purchasing Procedures manual, and allocated budget.

About you
To be successful in this role you will have the following:
- Tertiary qualification in Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning, Recreation Planning or related discipline with some relevant experience aligned with open space or land use planning or lesser formal qualifications and substantial relevant experience.
- Demonstrated project management skills including timeframe management, setting priorities, planning, and managing workloads to complete projects within the prescribed budget.
- Demonstrated understanding of the principles of parks and open space planning and development and an appreciation of the long-term needs of growth area communities.
- Proficiency with computer software including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and proficiency with computer design software (AutoCAD, Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop).
- Current valid Victorian Driver’s Licence.
- Must hold or be able to obtain an Employee Working with Children Check.
