Leading a dedicated paediatric outpatients team at Lyell McEwin Hospital, you will shape the standard of care delivered to children and families across Adelaide's northern suburbs — a community that depends on this service every day.
Your Scope as Nurse Unit Manager
Reporting to senior nursing and operational leadership within the Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN), you will provide clinical and managerial oversight of the Paediatric Outpatients unit at Lyell McEwin Health Service. Your key responsibilities include:
Leading day-to-day unit operations, workforce rostering, and resource allocation to maintain safe, effective patient flow
Providing visible clinical leadership that supports staff performance, professional development, and a positive team culture
Driving continuous quality improvement initiatives aligned with NALHN and SA Health standards
Building collaborative relationships with medical, allied health, and community partners to deliver coordinated paediatric care
What You Bring
Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA)
Demonstrated experience in paediatric nursing, with a sound understanding of outpatient care environments
Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop a nursing team in a busy clinical setting
Strong working knowledge of SA Health policies, accreditation requirements, and contemporary nursing governance
Effective communication and conflict-resolution skills, with experience managing complex stakeholder relationships
Commitment to person-centred, culturally safe care for children and their families
To be eligible for this position, you must be Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate,
In this role you will have strong interpersonal and communication skills which will enable you to successfully problem solve, resolve conflicts and negotiate, including the ability to engage in difficult conversations, whilst building and maintaining relationships. An ability to effectively manage multiple, diverse and competing priorities and demonstrated resilience within a stressful and complex environment is essential to this role.

Our Local Health Network Sites and Services:
NALHN provides a range of hospital (inpatient), outpatient, community and home-based services across multiple sites in Adelaide’s north and north-eastern suburbs, including Aboriginal health, mental health, and GP services.
Lyell McEwin Hospital – the major hospital in northern Adelaide for emergency care, complex and multi-day surgery, medicine, obstetric, paediatrics and outpatient services.
Modbury Hospital – a general hospital with emergency care, elective surgery, medicine, outpatient and sub-acute services, rehabilitation, geriatric and palliative care.
Mental Health Services – adult and older persons mental health services and statewide forensic mental health services, across hospital and community settings.
