About the Role
The Truck Driver (General) is responsible for the safe, efficient, and timely transportation of stock, grocery products, fresh produce, and other retail merchandise to support the operational requirements of Hillston IGA. The position plays a critical role in maintaining inventory supply chains, ensuring product availability, and supporting the efficient movement of goods between suppliers, distribution centres, and retail locations.
The role requires compliance with road transport regulations, workplace health and safety requirements, vehicle maintenance standards, and company delivery procedures while maintaining high standards of customer service and operational reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Operating heavy vehicles to transport grocery products, fresh produce, beverages, and retail merchandise safely and efficiently
- Loading, unloading, securing, and checking goods to ensure safe transportation and minimise product damage
- Conducting pre-start vehicle inspections and reporting mechanical faults, defects, or maintenance requirements
- Planning and following delivery schedules and designated transport routes to ensure timely deliveries
- Verifying delivery documentation, invoices, manifests, and stock records to maintain inventory accuracy
- Ensuring compliance with road transport legislation, fatigue management requirements, chain of responsibility obligations, and workplace safety standards
- Monitoring vehicle performance and maintaining vehicle cleanliness and presentation standards
- Assisting with stock handling, warehouse activities, and inventory movements where required
- Communicating effectively with store management, suppliers, warehouse personnel, and customers regarding delivery schedules and operational requirements
- Maintaining accurate records of deliveries, fuel usage, vehicle inspections, incidents, and transport activities
- Managing and securing loads in accordance with transport safety requirements and company procedures
- Responding appropriately to delivery issues, delays, customer enquiries, and operational challenges
- Following food safety, hygiene, and product handling procedures when transporting perishable and grocery products
- Assisting with logistics coordination to ensure continuity of stock supply and efficient store operations
- Supporting operational efficiency through safe driving practices and effective time management
Requirements
- Australian citizens and permanent residents are encouraged to apply
- AQF Certificate II or III relevant to transport and logistics operations (ANZSCO Skill Level 4) or at least 1 year of relevant truck driving experience may substitute for formal qualifications
- Valid Australian Heavy Vehicle Driver’s Licence (e.g., HR, HC or MC class, depending on vehicle requirements) or an equivalent overseas licence that can be transferred
- Good driving history and understanding of road transport regulations
- Experience in food distribution, logistics, or delivery operations is advantageous
- Ability to safely load, transport, and unload goods
- Strong time management and organisational skills
- Ability to work independently and follow delivery schedules efficiently
- Understanding of workplace health and safety requirements
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced logistics and distribution environment
Work Conditions
- Work location: In person (Hillston, NSW)
- May involve early morning starts, weekend work, and varying delivery schedules to support retail operations
- Ongoing position supporting the continued operations and supply chain requirements of Hillston IGA
Pay: $75,000.00 – $85,000.00 per year
