Purpose of the Role
BGIS is seeking an Apprentice HVAC Technician to join our Technical Services team within one of the Gold Coast's largest and most complex healthcare environments. Reporting directly to the Team Leader, you will work collaboratively with both client and BGIS teams while completing your apprenticeship, gaining valuable hands-on experience across commercial HVAC, refrigeration, mechanical services, and facility maintenance.
The ideal candidate will be eager to learn, enjoy practical problem-solving, and be excited to build a long-term career in the HVAC industry. You'll be supported by experienced technicians, structured training, and a team committed to helping apprentices develop their skills and confidence. ❄️
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems.
- Support servicing of air conditioning, ventilation, refrigeration, and mechanical plant equipment.
- Participate in planned and reactive maintenance activities across a large healthcare precinct.
- Learn how to diagnose mechanical and electrical faults under the guidance of experienced technicians.
- Assist with inspections, testing, and preventative maintenance activities.
- Support the maintenance of Building Management Systems (BMS) and associated equipment.
- Order materials and assist with maintaining tools, plant, and equipment.
- Build positive working relationships with team members, contractors, suppliers, and site stakeholders.
- Participate in the BGIS Apprentice Training Program and complete all assigned learning modules.
- Maintain compliance with safety procedures, company policies, and site requirements.
Education, Experience & Skills
Essential:
- Current White Card.
- Minimum Year 10 Certificate or equivalent.
- Genuine interest in developing a career within HVAC and Refrigeration.
- Strong willingness to learn and develop technical skills.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and work safely.
- Positive attitude and commitment to professional development.
- Australian Citizen or Australian Permanent Resident.
Desirable:
- Previous exposure to construction, maintenance, facilities management, or trade environments.
- Familiarity with hand tools and power tools.
- Exposure to mechanical services, air conditioning, refrigeration, plumbing, or electrical trades.
- Current Driver's Licence or working towards obtaining one.
- Interest in working within large and complex facilities.
Workplace Flexibility
To support your growth, this position will be based on-site in Southport within a major healthcare environment. You will gain exposure to a wide variety of commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems while working alongside experienced technicians and participating in structured apprenticeship training.
PPE, Uniform, iPad, Mobile Phone, and In-House Training are provided. The site also offers direct access to public transport.
