The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking an Industry Officer, to provide a critical role within Langi Kal Kal Prison.
About the Business Unit
Corrections Victoria (CV) operates Victoria's adult prison, post-sentence and community corrections systems. Its vision is for Safer Prisons, Safer People, Safer Communities. Corrections Victoria's mission is to create a safer, smarter system with a skilled and supported workforce, that enables people in our care to make better decisions. We take a modern approach to correctional services, providing people with best practice interventions to reduce their risk of reoffending. All of our work supports community safety.
H.M. Prison Langi Kal Kal is a minimum-security men's protection prison located 140klm west of Melbourne at Trawalla. The prison's primary purpose is the reintegration and preparedness of people in our care for transition to release. Langi Kal Kal is made up of 9 separate industries and service areas: Farm, Horticulture, Landmate, Kitchen, Metal fabrication, Batch Powder Coating, Poultry, Textiles & Warehouse, where there is a strong focus on employment, training, and work readiness.
About the Role
Some of your duties will include:

Prepare people in prison for release and enhance post release employment opportunities through employment, integrated on the job training, targeted educational opportunities, personal development programs and activities.

Establish and maintain safe operating procedures and other Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislative requirements and ensure compliance with prison industry procedures and the Industry Management Manual (IMM).

Are part of a multi-disciplinary team you are responsible for training and supervising people in the prison's commercial industries and service areas.

Conduct searches and escorts, surveillance, observe and assess behaviour, operate a variety of security and industrial equipment, collate information and prepare reports to inform management of emerging trends, incidents and maintaining of compliance requirements.

Must model and support pro-social behaviour.
As some industries operate 7 days a week, Industry Office rs may be required to work across a 7-day roster.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:

Demonstrated experience in operational environment or trade qualifications relevant to an existing industry or service.

Computer skills, including experience with the Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn and use internal systems (e.g. Oracle, PIMS, e-Justice, Centurion) is highly desirable.
Qualifications/requirements

Relevant trade qualification and/or industry certification applicable to industry and service operations (desirable).

Completion of the Prison Officer Pre-service Training or a willingness to undertake and complete the provided Prison Officer Pre-Service Training is required.
