Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners eligible for registration in New South Wales for the above position within the Department of Emergency Medicine based at Wyong Hospital, though should the service requirements change the candidate may be required to work from other hospitals within the Central Coast Local Health District CCLHD.

Please note - if applying for the temporary Staff Specialist position, this is a temporary parental leave relief position. The appointment is available for up to 12 months and may be extended for a further period where the substantive occupant returns on reduced parental leave hours. Should the substantive occupant return earlier than expected, the temporary appointment may be terminated with two weeks' notice. This temporary appointment does not provide an entitlement to ongoing or permanent employment.

Applicants should be a Fellow of the Australian/Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (FACEM) and / or other specialist recognition as provided for in the Staff Specialist (State) Award.

Central Coast is comprised of the twin areas of Gosford and Wyong, positioned between Sydney and Newcastle, which are collectively expected to grow from the current approximate 300,000 to 450,000 population before 2030. The Local Health District has strong connections with both Royal North Shore Hospital and the University of Newcastle.

This position is an excellent opportunity for newly qualified FACEMs or those looking for a sea change to work in a busy mixed ED setting. Wyong Hospital Emergency Department sees between 70-75,000 patients per annum and continues to grow. Clinical work is varied and encompasses all aspects of contemporary emergency medicine for both adult and paediatric populations.

The successful candidate will be joining a large and dedicated group of Staff Specialists who work within the department. FACEM coverage on the floor is made up of at least 3 and up to 7 FACEMs at anyone time dependent on shift crossovers. With multiple FACEMs on the floor at all times it provides the perfect environment for continued peer learning and collaboration to help professional development of all FACEMs, new and old alike.

In undertaking a Staff Specialist role the successful applicant will also have access to appropriate Clinical Support time to undertake appropriate non-clinical duties and further their development and personal goals in this important area of working as an Emergency Physician.

Salary and conditions are in accordance with the Staff Specialist (State) Award.

Staff Specialist Permanent Only - Recognised specialist qualifications, Fellow of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM) and / or other equivalent specialist recognition. Applicants expecting to be awarded their fellowship within six months may be considered. If successful, the applicant will not be subsequently eligible to commence their appointment until the relevant qualifications and requirements are formally completed.
Staff Specialist Temporary Only - Recognised specialist qualifications, Fellow of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM) and / or other equivalent specialist recognition.
Appropriate experience to practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner in Emergency Medicine
Ability to work constructively and effectively in a Multidisciplinary team environment, demonstrating excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
Demonstrated willingness and ability to lead and supervise medical and surgical trainees, residents and medical students; Previous experience in teaching the management of the deteriorating patient would be advantageous.
Demonstrated interest in quality improvement methodologies.
Demonstrated ability to competently complete core critical care procedures required for the practice of Emergency Medicine.
Demonstrated commitment to Caring for the Coast vision, goals and strategies, with demonstrated behaviours which align to the NSW CORE Values and CCLHD Values and Behaviours charter.
