Westmead Hospital is a key facility of one of Australia’s largest major health and medical research precincts and is the principal referral hospital for Western Sydney Local Health District providing district level health services to Parramatta, Holroyd and The Hills Shire LGAs including tertiary and quaternary services to greater Western Sydney, greater metropolitan Sydney, rural NSW and other states. The Westmead Health Precinct currently under development is envisaged to be the largest hospital building project undertaken in Western Sydney and will transform the iconic but ageing Westmead Hospital into an innovative, contemporary, and integrated centre that will continue to deliver high quality healthcare and expand the education, health, and research capability of the area.
Westmead Hospital is a leading centre of research, training and specialisation in all fields of Medicine and Dentistry, providing services in Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Kidney and Pancreas transplantation, Cancer Care, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Neonatal Intensive Care, Trauma, Bone Marrow Transplantation, Critical Care, Aged Care and Rehabilitation, Adult Acute Psychiatry (networked with the co-located Cumberland Hospital) as well as other specialised medical and surgical services.
Westmead Hospital is also the principal referral centre for other metropolitan hospitals within the district including Auburn Hospital, Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospital.
The WSLHD Department of Gynaecologic Oncology is one of 6 state-wide services, and sees more patients annually than any other single service in NSW (approximately 750 patients annually). Its region of responsibility encompasses WSLHD, Nepean/Blue Mtns LHD, Dubbo, Orange/Bathurst, Wagga Wagga, and Goulburn. The unit practices a consultant-led model of care.
Gynaecologic Oncology practices a consumer-focused, team-based, model of care with all team members - social worker, clinical psychologist, dedicated CNC, ward NUM & nurses, and medical specialists – working together to be proactive in anticipating and managing the woman’s physical and psychosocial wellbeing. Access of the patient, family and GP to the team is a priority.
The service currently is active in both laboratory and clinical research with over 10 clinical trials open at any one time as well as national collaborative translational research projects The research arm of the unit is recognised as a leader nationally and internationally.
What you'll be doing
WSLHD - Provisional Fellow - Obstetrics & Gynaecology – Gynaecological Oncology
The primary purpose of the position is to provide quality gynaecological oncology care to patients in a complex clinical environment whilst developing higher professional maturity and professionalism during the RANZCOG Advanced Training Program, with the goal of obtaining CGO certification. Provisional Fellow (Gynae-Oncology) will, under an appropriate level of supervision by senior staff as approved by the RANZCOG, evaluate, diagnose, treat and provide consultation to female patients presenting with premalignant, malignant or suspected malignant conditions or challenging benign gynaecological or obstetric conditions.

Training Opportunities
- Participation in Gyn Oncology data collection and quality assurance programs and clinical in-service activities, including lectures, tutorials and journal clubs.
- Gyn OncologyTrainees must complete an audit / research project during their tenure.
- Participation in educational activities involving Junior Medical, Nursing and Allied Health staff, including medical students.
- Trainees will be responsible for participating in continuing medical education and professional development as per the training requirements and as stipulated by the Medical Board of Australia.
- The nominated Supervisor(s) of Training will be responsible for providing reports and feedback on the progress of the Gyn Oncology Trainee, in accordance with College guidelines. Supervision reports will be completed periodically and may be passed onto the Medical Board of Australia, in accordance to supervision arrangements required for a trainee.
Supervision Arrangements
The Gyn Oncology fellow is supervised by the gyn oncology Consultant on call and are contactable 24 hours per day, either in person or via telephone after hours.
