About the role
The Senior Staff Specialist or Staff Specialist role provides clinical specialist psychiatry support to Mental Health and Specialist Services, making a substantial contribution to the development of a culture of medical education and safe, effective patient centered clinical practice.
The Medical Director of Secure Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit provides clinical care to patients and clinically manages on a day-to-day basis the associated multidisciplinary patient care team to ensure the delivery of appropriate patient care. In addition, the role provides professional leadership to the department and training, education and supervision to junior medical staff and other health care members.
Requirements for the role
Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Hepatitis B.
Tuberculosis screening - to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required.
Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed.
MBBS or equivalent registrable with the Medical Board of Australia plus FRANZCP or equivalent acceptable to the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and registrable as a Psychiatry specialist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Certified copies of relevant qualification/s and registration must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
Advanced Certificate in one of the following is highly desirable - Rehabilitation, Addictions and/or Forensics.
Experience in rehabilitation and recovery is highly desirable.
The incumbent will be required to participate in an after-hours and on-call roster for Mental Health and Specialist Services.
Senior Staff Specialists or Staff Specialists report operationally to the Medical Director of Secure Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit and professionally to the Chief Medical Officer.
The Medical Director reports operationally to the Clinical Director of Mental Health and Specialist Services and professionally to the Chief Medical Officer.
Salary information
Temporary full time Medical Director SMHRU (3 years with possibility to extend for a further 2 years)
Permanent full time Senior Staff Specialist or Staff Specialist
Senior Staff Specialist: Base salary from $259,072 - $274,678 p.a
Staff Specialist: Base salary from $216,643 - $251,642 p.a
