Drinks Server / Bartender – YORU Japanese-Korean Izakaya
YORU is a modern Japanese-Korean izakaya on the Gold Coast, blending bold flavours, premium ingredients, cocktails, sake, wine, beer, and late-night atmosphere in a stylish restaurant environment.
We’re seeking a confident, beverage-focused Drinks Server / Bartender to take ownership of the drinks experience on the floor.
This is not a traditional food server role. The focus is beverages: taking drink orders, preparing drinks, recommending pairings, maintaining glassware and bar stock, and making sure guests are well looked after throughout their meal.
Our current bar setup is back-of-house and not customer-facing, so drinks are prepared BOH. However, this role is still very guest-facing. We want someone who can move confidently through the floor, speak with customers, recommend drinks, upsell naturally, and maintain the overall drinks experience at each table.
What we’re after:
- Previous bartending, drinks service, or hospitality experience preferred
- Strong interest in wine, cocktails, beer, and beverage service
- Wine knowledge, including temperature control, pouring standards, and food pairing
- Ability to follow cocktail recipes precisely from a set cocktail list
- General bartending knowledge, including spirits, mixers, and common customer requests
- Tap beer pouring experience preferred
- Understanding of bar cleanliness, glassware handling, and stock control
- Knowledge of sake, Japanese whisky, soju, or Korean liquors is a bonus
- Confident communication skills and professional floor presence
- Reliable, punctual, organised, and calm under pressure
- Ability to upsell without being pushy
What you’ll be doing:
- Taking beverage orders from tables
- Preparing and serving cocktails from YORU’s set cocktail list
- Pouring wine correctly and maintaining proper wine service standards
- Recommending wine, sake, beer, cocktails, and food pairings
- Pouring tap beer and maintaining beer service quality
- Preparing common spirits and mixers when requested
- Delivering drinks to tables and maintaining drink service throughout the meal
- Performing table maintenance focused on drinks, glassware, water, and guest comfort
- Polishing and maintaining glassware
- Preparing cocktail garnishes before and during service
- Managing beverage stock levels and reporting low stock
- Cleaning and maintaining the bar, beer system, and beverage prep area
- Supporting food running only when time allows
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys beverage service, guest interaction, and creating a polished drinks experience without being locked behind a traditional front-facing bar. As YORU grows, we plan to construct a dedicated front-of-house bar, creating further opportunity for the right person to help shape the beverage program and bar culture.
