Gordon Primary School is seeking a caring, reliable and enthusiastic educator to join our school council-operated Outside School Hours Care team. Working under the direction of the OSHC Coordinator/Nominated Supervisor, the OSHC Educator contributes to a safe, inclusive and engaging program for primary school-aged children before school, after school and, where rostered, during Vacation Care and student-free days.
The educator works directly with children and supports their wellbeing, learning, agency and enjoyment through play, leisure, creative experiences, physical activity, quiet options and daily routines. Practice will be informed by the National Quality Standard, the Education and Care Services National Law and Regulations, Department policy, the service philosophy and Gordon Primary School policies.
The successful applicant will build warm and respectful relationships with children and families, provide active and attentive supervision, respond calmly to individual needs and contribute to a welcoming environment that reflects our school values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience.
This is an education support role and does not include the duties of a teacher. It does not carry the functions of Nominated Supervisor, Educational Leader or person in day-to-day charge unless the employee is separately assessed as suitable, provides the required consent and is formally appointed by the approved provider.
- Provide active supervision of children across indoor and outdoor environments, maintaining awareness of each child¿s location, activity and wellbeing and responding promptly to risk.
- Work within required educator-to-child ratios, staff rosters and directions from the responsible person, and immediately raise any concern that may affect safe service operation.
Support planned and spontaneous experiences that are age appropriate, inclusive, engaging and responsive to children¿s strengths, interests, cultures, abilities and choices.
- Build positive, respectful and culturally safe relationships with children, including Aboriginal children, children from diverse backgrounds and children with disability or additional needs.
- Use calm, consistent and restorative approaches to support positive behaviour, co-regulation, problem solving, respectful relationships and children¿s growing independence.
- Support safe arrival, departure and transition procedures, including accurate attendance records, authorised collection processes and the handover of relevant information.
- Follow health, hygiene, food safety and medical-condition procedures; assist with snacks and routines; and provide first aid or medication support only within current training, authorisation and service procedures.
- Respond to incidents, injuries, illness, emergencies and hazards in accordance with the service¿s procedures, including immediate escalation and accurate, timely documentation.
- Act on any child-safety or wellbeing concern in accordance with legal obligations, the Child Safe Standards, mandatory reporting requirements, the Reportable Conduct Scheme and Gordon Primary School¿s child-safety policies.
- Communicate professionally and respectfully with children, families, colleagues and school staff while maintaining privacy and confidentiality.
- Assist with setting up, packing down, cleaning, equipment checks, stock monitoring and maintaining safe, inviting and well-organised learning and leisure spaces.
- Participate in induction, mandatory training, team meetings, reflective practice, emergency rehearsals and continuous improvement activities.
- Perform other duties consistent with the classification, role purpose, service approval and employee training, as directed by the Principal or OSHC Coordinator.
