About the Sexual Assault & Family Violence Centre
We are a client-centred organisation, supporting the community throughout Barwon, Wimmera, and the South West regions, offering a range of specialist support services to people impacted by sexual and family violence, encompassing 24 hour crisis care, specialist response services, early intervention programs, Victims Assistance Program, Community Legal Services, trauma recovery programs, professional training and primary prevention initiatives.
About The Role
The new Youth Justice Victim Support Worker (YJVSW) role will work across two initiatives which support victims of youth offending. The YJVSW will attend Children’s Court to engage and support victims, and support and represent victims in restorative group conferences. Delivered in select areas across Victoria, the role is planned to work across two main areas;
- Children’s Court Victim Engagement
- Work with Victoria Police, Prosecutions, and Court staff to identify and engage with victims across the regions Children’s courts (Geelong, Warrnambool, Colac, Hamilton and Portland)
- Provide on-site support to victims to help them understand Children’s Court and youth justice processes 2
- Refer victims to support services such as Victim Assistance Programs, for case management and support with justice system tasks such as preparing Victim Impact Statements and applying to the Financial Assistance Scheme
- If appropriate, flag future opportunities for restorative processes and seek consent for contact about these opportunities
- Provide secondary consults to Prosecutions and contribute to referrals (e.g. CCYD, YJGC)
- Victim support for Conferencing - Better support existing demand for Youth Justice Group Conference’s (YJGC’s) - Children’s Court Youth Diversion (CCYD) conferencing

- A Bachelor or working towards a degree level qualification in psychology, social work or other relevant discipline.
- A minimum two years’ relevant experience is desirable
Essential Skills and Knowledge
- Understanding of the youth justice system (including the Children’s Court), victim service system and relevant legislation.
- Experience working with victims of crime.
- Demonstrated experience in trauma informed approaches to assessment, referrals and victim support.
- Understanding of restorative justice theory and principles, including an understanding of group conferencing processes.
- Ability to develop and maintain authentic and effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to secure positive client and service system outcomes.
- Excellent ICT, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong knowledge of family violence and sexual assault service systems, responses, and best practices
- Demonstrated ability in risk assessment and management, including suicide risk, self-harm, and violence risk
- Understanding of governance, quality improvement, and safety frameworks
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and demonstrate cultural humility

Period of Appointment
This position fixed term until June 2028
Hours of work
- The position is part time 0.8.
- Location of the position is in Geelong with regular travel to regional services
- Hours will usually be worked during business hours of 9.00am to 5.06 pm between Monday to Friday.
- The days are based on the needs of the service.
- Flexibility in working hours will be required from time to time as the need arises.
Salary and Conditions
Annual salary range is as a Business Services or Specialist Family Violence Practitioner classification, Level 5 Pay Point 1. Salary will be commensurate with experience and skills.
Industrial Instrument: The Sexual Assault & Family Violence Centre Enterprise Agreement 2023.
Salary Packaging: Provided via Maxxia. PBI status with other expenses available to package above this cap. The Sexual Assault & Family Violence Centre is a Public Benevolent Institution.
Superannuation: The employer will also make superannuation payments on your behalf in accordance with the Superannuation Guarantee (Administration) Act 1992.
Probationary Period – 6 months with a review conducted during this time.
