Job Description
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced and motivated Health Information Manager to lead Health Information Services across our Newcastle network of hospitals. Predominantly based at Lake Macquarie Private Hospital, the role also supports Berkeley Vale Private Hospital, Charlestown Surgical Centre and Warners Bay Private Hospital.
Reporting to the Director of Finance, you will play a key role in ensuring the effective management, integrity and governance of health information systems and services across multiple sites. This position is responsible for overseeing medical records management, clinical coding operations, statutory reporting, privacy compliance and health information data management in line with legislative and organisational requirements.

About the Role
In this role, you will be responsible for the overall coordination and management of Health Information Services across the network. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Leading the day-to-day operations of Health Information Services across multiple hospital sites

Managing medical records systems, clinical coding activities and health information governance processes

Ensuring compliance with relevant state and federal legislation, privacy requirements and industry standards

Coordinating mandatory reporting requirements, data submissions and casemix reporting

Overseeing coding quality, auditing processes and DRG analysis

Acting as Privacy Officer and managing the release of information in accordance with legislative requirements

Supporting workforce planning, team leadership, performance management and staff development initiatives

Developing and maintaining effective stakeholder relationships with clinicians, VMOs, hospital leaders and external agencies

Driving continuous improvement initiatives and contributing to operational and strategic objectives across the network

Providing education and support to hospital staff regarding documentation, coding, privacy and casemix requirements
About You
To succeed in this role, you will bring strong leadership capability, excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to operational management and continuous improvement.
You will also demonstrate:

Diploma or Bachelor qualification in Health Information Management (or equivalent)

Membership with the Health Information Management Association of Australia (HIMAA)

Advanced data collection, reporting and analytical skills
-
Strong knowledge of clinical coding standards and health information legislation

Proven ability to lead teams and manage competing priorities across a multi-site environment
-
Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills
-
A collaborative, solutions-focused approach with a commitment to high-quality outcomes
Desirable experience includes
-
Minimum 3 years’ hospital medical records coding experience across a range of specialties
-
Previous experience within a private healthcare environment
-
Knowledge of health fund contracting systems
