Job Description: SIL Support Worker

Experienced in Epilepsy, Behaviours of Concern & Comfortable Around Animals

About the Role

Kalliopi Support Services is seeking experienced, compassionate and reliable SIL Support Workers to provide high-quality, person-centred support to participants living in Supported Independent Living settings.

This role is suited to workers who are confident supporting participants with epilepsy, seizure safety needs, behaviours of concern, emotional regulation challenges and complex support needs.

The ideal candidate must also be comfortable around animals and not scared of pets, as the participant’s home environment may include animals such as birds, reptiles, fish or other household pets.

Key Responsibilities

Provide safe, respectful and person-centred daily support within a SIL environment.

Support participants with daily living tasks, routines, personal care, meal preparation, household tasks and community participation.

Follow epilepsy management plans, seizure response protocols and emergency procedures.

Recognise triggers, early warning signs and changes in presentation.

Respond calmly and appropriately to behaviours of concern using positive behaviour support strategies.

Maintain professional boundaries, dignity, privacy and participant choice.

Complete clear and accurate shift notes, incident reports and medication-related documentation where required.

Support the participant to build capacity, independence and meaningful daily routines.

Work collaboratively with the participant, family, team leaders, allied health professionals and other stakeholders.

Maintain a safe, clean and respectful home environment.

Be confident and comfortable working in a home where animals may be present.

Essential Requirements

Experience working in disability support, SIL, complex care or mental health.

Experience or strong confidence supporting people with epilepsy.

Experience or strong confidence supporting behaviours of concern.

Calm, patient, observant and emotionally regulated approach.

Must be comfortable around animals and not scared of pets.

Current NDIS Worker Screening Check.

Current First Aid and CPR.

Working With Children Check, where applicable.

Medication competency or willingness to complete medication training.

Strong communication and documentation skills.

Reliable transport and current driver’s licence preferred.

Ability to follow care plans, behaviour support plans and risk management procedures.

Highly Regarded

Experience with seizure monitoring and epilepsy support plans.

Experience with participants who require structured routines and consistent boundaries.

Understanding of trauma-informed and neuro-affirming practice.

Experience with positive behaviour support strategies.

Availability for sleepovers, weekends, community access or flexible SIL shifts.

Confidence working around farm animals, birds, reptiles, fish or household pets.
