Curtin University is seeking a motivated and early-career Counsellor (Registrar) to join our Psychological and Counselling Services (PACS) team. This is an exciting opportunity to develop your clinical skills within a supportive, multidisciplinary university environment while working towards registrar requirements under approved supervision.

About the Role:

Based at our Bentley campus, you will provide high-quality psychological services to a diverse student population. Working alongside experienced clinicians, you will deliver individual and group counselling, contribute to outreach initiatives, and support student wellbeing across the university community.

This role offers exposure to a broad range of presentations and the opportunity to build expertise in short-term, evidence-based interventions within a higher education setting.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide psychological assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning
Deliver evidence-based interventions (e.g. CBT, systemic and trauma-informed approaches)
Conduct intake, risk assessments, triage, and case management
Deliver counselling via individual, group, couples, and telehealth formats
Monitor and evaluate client progress
Consult and collaborate with academic staff and key stakeholders
Facilitate referrals to external services where appropriate
Contribute to psychoeducational workshops, outreach, and wellbeing programs
Participate in research and continuous professional development

Selection Criteria:

You are a developing clinician with a strong interest in student mental health and a commitment to evidence-based practice. You thrive in a collaborative environment and are confident engaging with diverse populations.

To be successful, you will have:

Eligibility for registration as a clinical or counselling psychologist in Australia or equivalent professional status in a related discipline consistent with International Association of Counselling Services (Inc) guidelines.
Demonstrated knowledge of short-term intervention approaches
Experience or capability in psychological assessment and counselling delivery
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
Understanding of the needs of a culturally diverse student population

Role Requirements

As this is a fixed-term contract, you will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role.

This is a part-time (0.6FTE) role, with flexibility on working days which will be discussed during the interview process, if progressed

Successful applicants are subject to a National Police Clearance, and background, integrity, and reference checks to Curtin’s satisfaction.

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check.
