We’re excited to be recruiting an experienced and passionate Senior Lawyer to join our Legal Services Team at the Building and Plumbing Commission (BPC).

About the Role:

This is a permanent full-time opportunity for a senior lawyer to take on diverse and challenging work, partnering with key stakeholders and contributing to legal outcomes in a dynamic and evolving regulatory environment.

The Senior Lawyer is responsible for partnering with key internal stakeholders to provide high quality, timely and pragmatic legal advice under the supervision of the Managing Legal Counsel - Legislative Functions, Advice and Commercial on various areas of law. These may include statutory interpretation, administrative law, contract law, corporate governance, risk, insurance, legislative reform, privacy law, FOI, employment law and commercial matters. This role supports divisions across the BPC and includes contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

This is a great opportunity to play a meaningful role in a newly established regulator at a time of significant industry reform.

What we are looking for:

We're keen to hear from lawyers who can demonstrate:

Strong legal expertise including the ability to deliver clear, practical and timely legal advice across a range of areas (e.g. administrative, commercial, employment, privacy/FOI).
Excellent stakeholder engagement with highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with proven ability to build relationships and influence at all levels.
Advanced analytical capability bringing strong problem-solving, critical thinking and organisational skills, with the ability to manage priorities effectively.
Demonstrates integrity, objectivity and initiative, with a commitment to continuous improvement and innovation.
Admission as an Australian Legal Practitioner with a current practising certificate, with a background in building and construction law highly desirable

The Building & Plumbing Commission (BPC) is Victoria's regulator for building and plumbing.

It supports the growing Victorian community through the developments of harms-based regulation that is proactive and informed by data and intelligence. The BPC regulates for better consumer outcomes and is committed to safety, compliance and buildings that last.

The BPC's aim is to improve the experience for consumers in the building system by overseeing all aspects of building quality control - regulation, insurance and dispute resolution .
